From the very first class, my 7-year-old daughter was hooked and it’s easy to see why! John is a true master of Jiu Jitsu. His classes are fun, educational, and full of energy, and he genuinely cares about every student. As founding members, we’ve watched the kids’ class size triple is not more in just a few weeks, a testament to how incredible this program is. The unlimited membership is an amazing value, class times fit perfectly with the local school schedule, and parking is free and easy. They also offer personal training, and if you’re a seasoned Jiu Jitsu student, the adult classes and memberships are great too! If you are looking for a new place to roll be sure to check John’s place out. Whether you’re looking for an amazing kids’ program or a new adult gym, Sceptre Jiu Jitsu delivers. We’re so excited for John and his family and can’t recommend this place enough. Support small, support local—you won’t regret it!
Coach John Miller is a passionate and kind jiu jitsu coach. Sceptre has been an amazing addition to the community and is a great place to safely learn modern grappling techniques for both children and adults. Classes usually start with jiu jitsu games that focus on developing a certain skill of the week. After demonstrating the goals of the game, students pair off to figure out the movements with guidance from coach John. As the class progresses, he goes deeper into the technique and shows variations. At the end of the class, students can spar to test their abilities to the fullest in a safe and controlled environment. Coach John is always excited to help each student with their jiu jitsu journey, whether you’re a hobbiest looking to improve your fitness, interested in self defense, or looking to be the next world champion!
I’ve been thinking about taking Jiu Jitsu classes for the past three years, and I finally found the right place! Coach John Miller is a passionate and dedicated instructor, and I’m so glad I joined Sceptre Jiu Jitsu. John’s teaching style is the perfect mix of technical detail and patience. He breaks down movements clearly, gives personal feedback, and creates a friendly, motivating environment where everyone feels supported. Assistant instructor Higgie is also incredible — full of energy, fun, and always ready to help you refine your technique so you can be your best. His dedication to being the best is infectious and inspires his students. If you’ve been thinking about taking classes but weren’t sure where to start, I highly recommend this place. (I even bought a Sceptre Jiu Jitsu Gi!) 🥋
I can’t say enough good things about Sceptre Jiu Jitsu and Professor John Miller. His teaching style is the perfect balance of technical detail and patience. He breaks down complex movements in a way that makes them easy to understand, whether you’re a complete beginner or someone with years of experience. What really stands out is how invested he is in each student’s progress. He takes the time to give individual feedback, makes sure everyone feels welcome, and creates a training environment that’s both challenging and supportive. The culture here is friendly and encouraging, and that’s a direct reflection of the way John runs his classes. If you’re looking for a place to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a positive, professional, and motivating environment, I highly recommend Sceptre Jiu Jitsu. John Miller is an exceptional teacher and coach, and training here has been an outstanding experience.
I dropped in at Spectre Jiu Jitsu and had a fantastic experience. I coordinated the visit beforehand with John, the owner, who was very responsive and helpful. When I arrived, coach Higgi was incredibly welcoming and made me feel right at home from the start. The Wednesday class was a shark tank-style workshop, which was both unique and highly effective. You choose what you want to work on, then rotate through fresh partners every 30 seconds for two-minute rounds. Afterward, Higgi provided detailed feedback based on his observations, which was extremely valuable. I picked up several useful details that I’ll definitely be taking back to my own training. The facility itself is excellent, very clean and well organized. In the back, there’s a fully equipped strength and conditioning area with a squat rack, pull-up bar, free weights, rower, assault bike, and sled. The attention to detail even extends to the restrooms, which are stocked with
John and Higgie ran a wonderful spring jiu jitsu camp that our kids really enjoyed. My 2nd grader especially liked learning the basics of jiu jitsu, while my kindergartener loved the variety of activities, from art time to games with friends to picking up a few moves. The coaches clearly put their hearts into creating a positive, fun experience — even including a bonus temporary tattoo session by Higgie, who’s not only skilled in jiu jitsu but also a talented artist. We came in without many expectations and were pleasantly surprised to see so many familiar families from our school, along with how clean and organized the space was.
