Visiting from Hong Kong and trained at 10th Planet San Mateo for the past 3 months, hands down one of the best jiu jitsu gyms in the Bay Area. Adam is an incredible coach who makes every class technical, safe, and fun. The training environment is super friendly and welcoming, with a very high level of jiu jitsu. Whether you’re a beginner or advanced, this is the place to train on the Peninsula. Can’t recommend it enough!
My 6 and 8 year old sons have been in the Mini Jitsu class for the last couple of months, and we all love it so far! It stood out from another bjj location we trialed because of the Mini Jitsu program they designed that gives younger kids a variety of stripes and belts that they can earn in a shorter timeline. This works really well on my kids who like to earn things and see progress. They also really emphasize values like discipline, fitness, and health and discuss it in class. I think it’s a great program and would definitely recommend it. My only wish is that they had a bigger space or could form more classes, since the space feels tight for their bigger classes.
I dropped in for a Friday night class at 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu San Mateo while I was in town from Chicago, and I couldn’t have had a better experience. The instructor, Ian, was extremely friendly, professional, and welcoming from the moment I walked in. The students were great partners—super friendly and dialed in. Everyone matched my intensity perfectly, which made for some really fun, competitive rolls without anyone going overboard. The vibe was respectful, technical, and exactly what you hope for when you’re visiting a new gym. I’ll definitely be coming back the next time I’m in town. Highly recommend.
