I tried a free class at Midnight Jiu-Jitsu Club late January of this year (2025) and I can honestly say it has changed my life for the better. I’ve always wanted to train in Jiu-Jitsu but just never took the chance. Then, the Eaton Fires happened and unfortunately we had to move from Altadena to Monrovia. One of the many blessings that came after from having to move from being displaced by a fire was coming across Midnight Jiu-Jitsu. I’m sure many of you who have tried a martial art or any form of hand to hand combat training can attest how intimidating it can be to walk into a dojo for the first time. The head coach/owner Walter made me feel at ease as he was very welcoming and accommodating during my free trial beginner class. I was training with a blue belt, Derek (who was also friendly and welcoming), and was going into positions that were unfamiliar and made my abs (not visible, sadly) cramp. It was very tough - even from the begin
After nearly 15 years away from the mats, I decided to restart my Jiu-Jitsu journey—and joining Midnight Jiu-Jitsu Club was the best decision I could’ve made. I’ll admit, I was nervous at first. Being older now, I wasn’t sure if I could find the same passion I once had for the art. But Coach Walter, an exceptional practitioner and teacher, made my return seamless. The vibe and environment here are amazing. Everyone I’ve trained with has been incredibly friendly and accommodating—there’s absolutely no ego on these mats. Coach Walter and his team truly care about every student, making sure we’re not only learning but also training in a safe and supportive way. On top of world-class Jiu-Jitsu instruction, Midnight Jiu-Jitsu Club also offers Muay Thai and MMA classes led by top-notch champion fighters. Whether you’re looking to sharpen your stand-up game or get a complete mixed martial arts experience, this gym has it all. If you’re looking
I have had the privilege of training at Midnight Jiujitsu and I am really grateful for the friendships, the instruction, and the overall experience. A great gym gives you a solid foundation to learn and grow, but Midnight Jiujitsu offers so much more. The atmosphere, the passion, and the way everyone genuinely cares about each other make it something special. What stands out the most is how much the instructors truly want to see their students improve. It is never about ego or personal recognition, it is about helping people progress and enjoy the journey. That kind of mindset creates an environment where everyone feels supported no matter their goals. One of the things I appreciate most is how adaptable the training is. Whether you are there for self defense, fitness, stress relief, competition, weight loss, or just to have fun, the instructors meet you where you are and help you work toward whatever matters to you. Everyone’s path is
I’ve been training jiu jitsu for a little over 8 years now and I’ve dropped in at a lot of different gyms all over the place. The vibes at Midnight are amazing! Everyone was super nice and welcoming! Being a woman in jiu jitsu, navigating the experience of being a female visitor at a new gym can be tricky (to say the least) and I can honestly say I felt so comfortable with the coach and the guys in the class. They were all respectful during the drills and during sparring and there was not one instance where I felt forced to roll with anyone I didn’t want to. Being comfortable and feeling safe and respected is a big deal to me being female in a male dominated close contact sport and I’ve definitely had some not so great experiences in the past. Not once did I feel uncomfortable or anything other than welcome here. I can’t recommend them enough, especially if you’re a girl looking to start your martial arts journey but feeling uneasy abou
As an academy owner and longtime practitioner of Jiu Jitsu I can give Midnight Jiu Jitsu Club a solid 100% endorsement! I have worked and trained with Walter (academy owner and head instructor) for awhile now and his breadth of knowledge and coaching style is rock solid. Whether you are a hobbyist or active competitor you will find that this academy will take you to the next level in your Jiu Jitsu Journey. Go in, try a class. You will not be disappointed.
I couldn’t be happier with this jiu jitsu school. The atmosphere is welcoming, positive, and motivating from day one. The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely care about your progress, no matter your experience level. What really sets this place apart is the community — everyone supports each other, pushes each other to get better, and makes you feel like you belong. It’s more than just a gym, it’s a family. Highly recommend to anyone looking to train and grow.
