This is what my subjective opinion of what 10th Planet Pasadena’s business model is: FOCUS on Jiu Jitsu … everything else will take care of itself. I’d like to believe I did diligent research before I ended up with 10P. There’s something about the BJJ community (in 10p Pasadena at least) that promotes genuine respect regardless of what belt you hold. There still is a hierarchy somewhat, but not in an ostentatious manner. BJJ can easily be overwhelming. Firsthand experience… “fundamentals has the potential to carry 8 moves in one drill… not to mention 10 other details in regard to body position. Instructors have an innate understanding of that, most of the students do too. A lot of other students help each other. Coach Lila shines with her motivation and positive energy. No, not the rah rah kind. She’s one who won’t sugarcoat but rather, teach tangible approaches and moves and attention to detail that helps you grow in your journey. My c
10th Planet Pasadena is a second home to me and a not an average gym by any means. This gym is a place where you can learn from very experienced, professional fighters and instructors who know how to benefit a diverse class of people from all walks of life. I have trained at 10PP for several years and it is a place I always look forward to coming back to because of the people, the positive culture, and the detailed instruction. As a lawyer who also trains, I am grateful for the schedule that provides early morning classes so I can still practice jiu jitsu before my work begins. I’m happy to be part of a great jiu jitsu school that is also my family.
Awesome community very easy to get along with team members & coaches. Everyone seems to be on the same page here wether you’re a competitor or a hobbyist everyone takes care of each other. Very beginner friendly for people starting, but also there are very high level team mates & classes here for more advanced people. I feel the system and techniques that we learn here are extremely practical and progressive where as, from my own experience, other places seem to teach super random questionable stuff and incomplete systems. I also love that there are classes through out the day if my personal schedule changes there’s always an available class to take so I don’t feel like I have to skip training if something comes up. I like that there’s an event board for upcoming seminars & comps whereas at other gyms I have felt like if I wanted to compete I would have to do my own extensive research. Other pluses there’s a workout gym area for weight
I joined as a complete beginner to martial arts and when starting anything new, there is an adjustment period but it's been a great learning experience so far. I like the idea that this is a new school where class sizes are smaller and more attention can be given to each student and that's what you'll get at 10th Planet Pasadena. The two head instructors are different yet both very effective teachers. Professor Cruz keeps class light-hearted and fun while being very focused on teaching all the latest 10th Planet System techniques. Professor Ramey focuses on the often misunderstood leg-lock techniques and makes sure you know the small details. The senior students and all the instructors and coaches here are very friendly and it feels like a family environment. I definitely don't regret joining. See you in class soon!
We wanted to write a quick review of 10th Planet. I won’t bury the lead - this place is awesome! Both our son and daughter have been members of the 10th planet team. Coach Lila and her small group of assistant coaches (including amazing coach Sam) have been incredibly supportive since day 1. My husband and I don’t have a martial arts background and we appreciated the really welcoming nature of the program. It’s also nice that a monthly membership gives you access to a bunch of classes each week, which means we can miss a day here and there and not feel like we are wasting money. For our kids, it was also really important to us that they have exposure to a strong female coach, and Coach Lila is as smart, strong, and nurturing as you can get. She’s the whole package, a very cool presence, and it creates a great atmosphere in the studio. We are so glad we have her - and 10th Planet - in our children’s life. I would highly recommend this pr
This gym is co-owned & operated by husband/wife black belt team Professor(s) Eric “Compella” & Lila. The gym is super clean, friendly & professional training environment, family friendly, and of course high quality jiu jitsu. I am a blue belt and have been training jiu jitsu 2.5 years total, & just under 1 year here. Since joining, my skills & knowledge have skyrocketed under their leadership & among the community @ 10th planet Pasadena. Highly recommend.
