I recently signed up for a six-month program at Jiu Jitsu League in Long Beach to try something new, and I brought my husband along too. From the moment we walked in, we felt right at home! Jiu Jitsu can be a bit intimidating, especially since it’s usually seen as a male-dominated sport, but I was so happy to find out that the gym is run by Haley and Kevin, an amazing husband-and-wife team. Their kids even train there, which gives the place a warm, family vibe. They’ve really created a space where everyone, no matter your experience level, can feel comfortable and supported. The community here is fantastic! I met some awesome women who’ve been training at this gym for over a decade, which says a lot about how welcoming and inclusive the environment is. The vibe is super chill—there’s absolutely no pressure to be perfect. You can learn at your own pace, which makes the whole experience really enjoyable. What’s also great is that they off
Let me tell you about what kind of people the owners of Jiu Jitsu League are. Only a month or two after joining, I decided to fundraise for a 5k run for non-profit event for Parkinson's disease research for my father. Of all my friends and family, Hayley and Kevin were the FIRST to donate money to my fundraiser. Totally unexpected and appreciated. I honestly thought I was just going to be a number like any typical gym membership. They and all the members have been super supportive with me inside and outside of Jiu Jitsu. Let me tell you about what kind of people I meet at the Jiu Jitsu League. I live in a neighborhood with the worst parking conditions. I took an Uber to class one night. After one of basic classes, one of the members who I JUST met during that same class offered me a ride home. I could have been a serial killer or lived in Canada, but that member offered me a ride in his car without even knowing me. Everyone at the gym i
I joined The jiu-Jitsu League in January 2024, I have been going to their classes for over a year now. This was my first time trying jiu jitsu and the environment was very welcoming. Of course I felt nervous but Haley was very kind and that helped a lot. My journey with Jiu Jitsu might be similar to most that I felt a bit frustrated at first because it was very new to me and I was not used to combat sports, "fighting" with other individuals. The owners Kevin and Haley helped with this because you can tell that they really care about their students. They try to get to know you and they learn everyones names and that is important to be able to have that connection, community, and feel like you are being seen especially as you are learning something that can be challenging physically but also mentally. They are always open to suggestions to let them know what you are trying to work on and they incorporate it to the classes. I am currently
About 11 years ago when I was first looking for a gym, I came across The Jiujitsu League. The owners, Kevin and Haley are super friendly and welcoming, the students are all equally welcoming. The classes are fun, the rounds are tough, and overall there is something special about this place that keeps us all coming back. There is a variety of class times, and class groups that can accommodate all levels. Separate changing rooms for men/women available, and ample parking space. The gym is conveniently located at the marina, with many businesses nearby. You can grab a coffee or a beer after class, get some groceries, or buy dinner. Come check us out, Find us on the ground floor, right under the fixtures store. See you on the mats!
Since school has ended and I’ve had to move back home, I already feel how much I’m going to miss you guys, the team, and the gym. The Jiujitsu League wasn’t just a place to train, it truly became a family for me, and that’s something I’ll hold onto for a long time. Being a part of the gym has been one of the greatest blessings in my life, and my expectations were exceeded in every way. Every class felt like a seminar, and the level of teaching was top tier. I couldn’t help but take notes afterward to make sure I remembered everything because I didn’t want to lose any of the knowledge you shared. You set the standard for what a gym should be. When I first came in, I was new to LB and a little lost, but full of passion for jiujitsu. Thanks to you and the amazing atmosphere you’ve built, I was able to grow not just in the art, but also personally. I truly don't know what I would have done if I didn't find you guys. Training became more tha
