I've know the head instructor Roo for almost two years now and he's one of the best coaches I've ever had. His knowledge in both Muay Thai and BJJ is extensive. He will train you hard but also is very accommodating to your skill level and the personality you bring to the school. I've really enjoyed starting BJJ these last few months as classes are nice, small, and intimate which makes for more focused learning and a community environment with your fellow trainees as opposed to the large crowded classes you might get at another school. If you're a shy person like me this is a very ideal place to train. High recommend for all levels of martial artists out there.
Oddball Jiu Jitsu is the spot!! I have been training with the owner Arun for over 10 years in both Muay Thai & BJJ. He is the nicest, most humble person you will ever meet, but make no mistake…. He is a killer on the mats. He is as skilled as they come. A REAL black belt in jiu-Jitsu and has a lifetime of experience fighting in the art of Muay Thai. What’s even more impressive than his resume is his ability to teach. I have witnessed him for over a decade teaching everyone from 6 year olds to high level professional fighters. He treats everyone with the same level of respect, no matter what their skill level. I highly recommend Oddball for anyone who wants to train in a friendly environment that is not full of meatheads and ego.
I Just moved to Long Beach and I am extremely happy to have found Oddball Jiu Jitsu. I am a blue belt, and have trained at quite a few gyms over the last couple of years while traveling. I have to say I the atmosphere at oddball is top tier. The professor is an experienced competitor and teacher with a black belt under Andre Galvao. The students and training partners are super cool and everyone is respectful and clean. Also the kids classes are awesome. I highly recommend this as a place to train and/or send your kids!!
Came to Long Beach from Texas for a tournament and happened to find Oddball on Apple Maps. After calling several other gyms Shoshi was very kind and helpful in working out a time for us to train. The owner, Arun, an experienced blackbelt, was super welcoming. He was kind enough to allow us to train off schedule and provide advice on techniques. It’s obvious he loves the sport and wants to make people better athletes. I’m grateful to have found this gym and anyone who is local and able to train here regularly would be very lucky to have a coach like him who truly cares about his team and building their skillset. Anytime I’m in town I would love to drop in again in the future. Thank you Shoshi and Arun!
I am so glad I found this place. The day I met roo, I had never done any jui jitsu, and was intimidated by the intensity of the sport. Sensing this, he said jokingly “there are no meatheads here” and assured me that at oddball, they just want to see you get better. Roo teaches great jui jitsu technique at every level, but what makes this gym stand out to me is Roo’s contagious respect and care for his students that makes rolling so enjoyable. He watches students and gives pointers, is always in a good mood, and takes time to explain his teaching philosophy. To me he is more than an instructor, he is a mentor.
I have been training ju jitsu for 5 years. I dropped in on an open mat and was immediately struck with how welcoming the atmosphere was, and how well the gym was maintained. The professor was very technical, knowledgeable; and sparring with him was very fun. If I lived in Long Beach I would definitely train here.
