I attended a class at South Shore Jiu Jitsu while visiting San Diego for work. From start to finish, Professors Shawn and Ronnie were exceptionally welcoming, helpful, and engaging. The class was so great. Everyone I trained with was friendly and technical. Got some very helpful feedback along the way. Highly recommend the gym as a place to train. Already looking forward to visiting again when back in town. Update in 2024. Visited again while in town for work, and great experience once more. Professor Ronnie and everyone was very welcoming and helpful. Had such a great time training here. Will definitely be visiting again.
Visiting a friend in Imperial Beach for a few days and I was keen to get some Nogi practice in, but I didn’t think I’d be able to make the time. Luckily, Southshore Jiu Jitsu was right around the corner from where I stayed, so I was able to drop in twice during my time in Imperial Beach! Shawn and Ronnie run a great academy, and I had a great time during both of the classes I attended. Despite knowing no-one there, people were happy to pair up during drilling, and during live rolls, it was easy to find partners. Not only that, but everyone was very accommodating to my newbie skill set. There were no egos, and everyone was looking out for their partner’s wellbeing. Shawn and Ronnie clearly cultivate an atmosphere of camaraderie and mutual support & respect at their academy, and on top of that, both guys were extremely friendly. I don’t know the next time I’ll be in Imperial Beach, but I DO know where I’ll go for Jiu Jitsu when am.
This gym is so great, we’ve tried so many gyms in SD to find our fit, and have never been to a gym this down to earth and welcoming. The kids program is so fun for the kids and the coaches are so attentive and take the time to get to know their students. My kids have a blast in class. I’m so glad south shore has sparked their passion for bjj ❤️ PS- the gym is also spotless and in such a great location with a view and plenty of parking. You can easily get coffee lunch or dinner right next door, or go on a trail walk after class!
Amazing gym to get kids introduced and started to Jiu Jitsu. Ronnie and Shawn are world class and they do an incredible job with the kids, especially the little ones. Our son started when he was 4 and has a blast. Its a perfect blend of getting the kids moving around, having fun and learning skills.
The absolute best BJJ and Muay Thai gym in IB. These guys raise champions on the mats and in their lives outside of the mats. Highly recommend them to train your little ones into future champions. Laid back positive vibes, everyone is friendly and the facility is spacious, professional and clean.
