I graduated with my pink belt this year from the Women Empowered program offered by Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. I must say, it is truly the best martial arts program for women. I was hesitant at first, but once I started, I found myself always looking forward to each class. Our instructor, Ashlee, along with the other pink-belt graduates, were incredibly welcoming and encouraging—I wanted to be just like them. Through this program, I gained confidence and a sense of control over myself. At 60 years old, I never imagined I could accomplish something so rewarding. I’m no longer afraid to walk alone, and I’ve learned so much about how to defend myself and stand up for myself. I would encourage anyone, at any age, to experience this program. Our coaches were exceptional and genuinely invested in our success.
I'm so grateful to have found the Women Empowered program so close to home! I'm from Merced, but Coach Ashlee's masterful teaching makes the drive more than worthwhile. Classes are so much fun, and our classmates are always welcoming. I would recommend Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Fresno to anyone looking for quality self-defense and Brazilian jiu-jitsu training.
I joined the Women's Empowerment program after a workshop in 2024 and it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. As a female realtor personal safety is always a concern. The Wonens Empowerment program takes the principles of Brazillian Jui Jitsu and applies them to self defense focusing primarily on the most comon attacks against women. Since joining my confidence in my ability to escape and defend myself has grown exponentially. The program is so much more than that though. We have fun, we laugh, we get a little silly sometimes, but we all understand the gravity of why we need this class. Everyone starts at the beginning and new students often partner with more experienced students as a learning tool. Techniques are slowly perfected over time and repetition as well as lots of encouragement. Coach Ashley along with her more advanced students are patient, kind, and make learning Jui Jitsu fun. This school is great! You start learning techniques in classes immediately and are made to feel safe while learning. The coaches are friendly and incredibly helpful. You don’t have to worry about being thrown to the wolves and possibly hurt when you’re first starting out. All the classes, from kids to women’s self defense to combatives to master cycle, have been amazing! Our entire family, parents and children, have been taking classes for over a year and look forward to many years to come!
I come from a military background and have sought a school with structure and quality instruction. This gym not only provides that, but the instructors have a kindness about them that is overwhelmingly welcoming. I will NEVER recommend any other gym in the Central Valley besides the Gracie Jiu Jitsu gym because my experience here has been top notch! Don’t waste your time or money anywhere else, ESPECIALLY if you have little kids. Their kids program is incredible and I can’t wait to finally get my child involved once she’s old enough.
My wife and I brought our daughter to BJJ to get the discipline and values that I believe jiu-jitsu instills, if taught by the right people. Coaches Roger and Abe are phenomenal. I did my research and selected Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Fresno. I will say we have been here almost since day one of opening when there was only a few students, next month marks a year for us, staff and students are all still here and class has just grown and grown. I highly recommend.
