Okay writing this from personally personal experience and for my absolute love for this gym. I got into Jiu Jitsu over a year and a half ago and while the gym I was going to was great, I found that I wasn't learning much and the environment just wasn't for me, especially as a first timer getting into a contact sport. I gave it my all but I could not keep up and I kept getting injured and I just felt like I could not fit in, no matter how much I tried. Fast forward to half a year later, I moved to the Fremont area and stumbled upon Baem Jiu Jitsu!! Ironically, it was the stellar google reviews that led me to this place (SO JUST FYI). I had my first trial day and the gym was so welcoming and also so homey, there were way less people which I loved since I easily became intimidated at my last gym and there was also DENNEY. If you've ever been in any sports at all throughout your life, you KNOW that a coach can either make or break your love
I’ve been training at this BJJ gym for a few months now, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best spots in town. As a beginner white belt, I was nervous about jumping in, but the coaches here are incredibly welcoming and patient they take the time to break down techniques without making you feel dumb for asking questions. The hospitality is A1 from the moment you walk in; everyone from the front desk to the instructors makes you feel like part of the family. What really stands out is their kids program it’s top tier! My little one joined recently, and the structured classes keep the kids engaged while teaching discipline and fun fundamentals. The coaches are amazing with them, turning what could be chaotic into a positive, empowering experience. And let’s talk about the vibe on the mats: You won’t find any black belts here getting offended when a white belt like asks to roll or seeks advice. It’s all about growth and community, no
Highly recommend!!! One of the best training environments I have had the pleasure of experiencing. If you're living in the East Bay (or the Bay at large) and want to train BJJ (as hobby, self defense, or to compete) in a top notch academy, with a high level of instruction, and a REALLY great culture ... this school is a no-brainer, just take a trial class and I think you'll understand. I am fairly new to BJJ, and this was the first official school I had trained at. I was nervous and a bit intimidated at first. But after my first class, I left feeling really grateful for the experience. There's a mix of levels. The higher belt students are really skilled, and the best part is .. they are super friendly, patient, and willing to help you get better. Everyone is respectful of each other and you definitely feel safe rolling. I think that's a testament to Denny (head coach) and the rest of the instructors. As a teacher myself, I'm really awar
TLDR: Denny is an amazing instructor and Baem Jiu Jitsu Academy is a great place to train at! I visited Baem Jiu Jitsu Academy with my wife and a friend of ours (we've all been training for over 10 years) and had a great experience. The gym was clean, the students were polite and playful, and Denny was amazing. He rolled with me and caught me in a few moves I've never seen before, and after the round I asked him about one of them. He not only showed me several variations of the move, but also in the next round he intentionally presented a situation where I could implement that move. Being able to immediately identify what an experienced (and novice) practitioner could add to their game, present the material clearly on the spot, and having them implement right away show his gift as a coach. Not all black belts are great coaches but Denny certainly is one, and his students showed it by their skills and attitudes. If you live in the area a
Baem Jiu Jitsu gets two sets of five-stars from me. One set for the world-class, top-notch instruction, and another set for the very friendly environment. Denney's teaching talents are on full display, each and every class. His attention to detail is unreal, and every time I think I can't grasp a technique, I'm walked through it until I understand it. And he does this for each student. For those rare times the classes have been substituted by a different instructor, the students can rest assured knowing that anyone Denney chooses to sub for him is also a highly-qualified teacher. As for the students/training partners, everyone here is incredibly welcoming and friendly, and it's all about getting each other better, whether the goal is competition or hobby. I recommend this school to all of friends who ask me about starting a martial art, and this is where I'll continue to train as long as I'm living in Fremont.
Baem Jiu Jitsu is an amazing place to train BJJ whether you are a beginning white belt looking to start your martial arts journey or a competitive black belt looking to always improve your self defense game. It’s a clean/ friendly environment that really makes you feel at home. Professor Denney is a true black belt with outstanding knowledge of BJJ. His attention to detail is what makes him an incredible instructor. He breaks down drills for you to understand and apply so when it comes to rolling live in class or competing in competition you will always be prepared. He really values his students and trains them to perform at their very best. I highly recommend Baem BJJ to anyone in the Fremont area of California. 10/10 service! You won’t be disappointed.
