I’ve had the privilege of training at Gracie Barra Encinitas since 2005, and it’s truly been one of the most meaningful and consistent parts of my life. Under the guidance of Professors Nelson Monteiro and Rafael Ramos—both world-class instructors and incredible human beings—I’ve grown not only in my jiu jitsu journey but also as a person. Their leadership has cultivated a culture that is as welcoming and inclusive as it is technical and disciplined. From day one, this academy felt like home. The atmosphere is warm, the community is tight-knit, and the values go far beyond the mats. It's a place where lifelong friendships are made and where everyone, regardless of rank or background, is treated with respect and care. I earned my black belt here 14 years ago, and I still look forward to every training session. That says a lot about the kind of place this is. My 6-year-old son has been attending this school for the past year, and it has been the best extracurricular activity we have signed him up for. Coach Matt and Victor have high expectations, yet treat the kids with such great respect! My son looks up to and respects them so much! Ms. Barbara is so amazing with parents and kids as well. She welcomes my son to class in a gentle, nurturing way everyday he enters the school. He looks forward to her warm welcome each day! I highly recommend Gracie Barra Encinitas to parents who want their children to learn to be disciplined, respectful , and self-confident. This is a fantastic school. Our family trains here and could not be happier. From the professors to the students it feels like a family. The kids programs and large schedule makes it easy for us to train because there is always a class. The place is very welcoming to new students and there is a comfortable area to watch class. I first started my GB journey back in 2019, yep, right before. What a great experience that was. The first time on the mat as a new white belt took me back to my wrestling years. Yet, for a variety of reasons, I had to end my journey early. My gi hung in my closet, but I kept telling myself one day. One day is now. Life changed, giving me the opportunity to start again. Jiu-jitsu is a fantastic workout, a mentally challenging sport, and a great way to start the day. The people at GB Encinitas are supportive and caring. Many people that I trained with five years ago have progressed and are still rolling on the mats. Thank you, GB, for making this next stage of life exciting and challenging.

My 10 year old son trains at this facility. We started in August and I couldn’t be happier with Gracie Barra, Encinitas. The place is clean and well run. The instructors are fantastic and focus on every student and their progress with 4-5 instructors on the mat every class. Administratively the place is totally well run too. Really can’t say enough good things about it.
