I recently had the chance to train at Jiu Jitsu and Dreams on Somersville Road across the dead Antioch mall. I can honestly say it’s anything but dead. The space may be small, but it’s incredibly welcoming, friendly, and full of life. As a woman and a mom who trains, safety is always at the top of my list. Walking into a new jiu-jitsu gym can be super anxiety-inducing. Truly, you never know what kind of environment or training partners you’re stepping into, especially in a totally male-dominated sport like jiu jitsu. Women who train know exactly what I mean. I’m genuinely happy to say that Chris Vickers and his team created the complete opposite of that experience. This is an amazing Jiu Jitsu academy! I've been here a few times now and I always have a wonderful time training here. The head coach, Chris Vickers, is one of the best Jiu Jitsu coaches and competitors that you will ever meet. I have been training for 8 years now, met a lot of people, and he is definitely one of the most passionate practitioners. When you want to learn Jiu Jitsu, you want to train with someone that has competed a lot because they have the experience to make you great. Even if you never want to compete, you will learn the best Jiu Jitsu. Chris competes several times a year and has won so many medals and championship belts. He can help you become a champion too. Chris is very patient and will help you learn. He takes the time to walk you through every step and makes sure you know what's going on. He will do everything he can to help you.
