Love this academy. There are three reasons for this: 1) It starts at the top. Professors Hugo Munoz and Victor Perales are gentlemen, who are so friendly and welcoming, with such a deep knowledge of BJJ that it will make your head spin. Coach Hugo and his team teach by breaking everything down to its most basic form, making it easy to follow the technique being taught, and in such a way that it is relatable to your level, whether you are a white belt or with years of training. 2) It is a place where positive reinforcement and encouraged reign. Everyone, without exception, all the coaches including the other students, are so helpful and friendly. No one hordes the knowledge. Everyone is so giving and helpful with their time and skill level. White belts do not feel "out-of-it" since the upper belts are always helping with technique and improvement. 3) One is not forced to compete. You are made welcome at the academy whether you are there
Hands down this gym is beyond amazing! My family and I love it here! Coach Hugo and Vic are extremely helpful and have great knowledge not only in Jiujitsu but wrestling as well! They also run an amazing kids program if you’re looking to build your kids confidence this is the place to go! and can’t forget about coach Marilu! She teaches the all women class! Hands down one of the best women coach in the DFW! Definitely 5 star Gym!
This jiu jistu academy is beneficial to my entire family! We have been attending since the opening day. My two boys really enjoy the wrestling classes they offer. I enjoy the schedule, and appreciate all the available classes they are able to teach. The instructors are very helpful and take good care of the kids. The feeling on the mat is homelike. My family and I appreciate it! Great gym!
I’d have to say with there being several quality BJJ schools in the metroplex I’d rate Silverback BJJ at the top of them all. To me quality instruction is of utmost importance but what find just as valuable is quality culture. The culture of Silverback BJJ is second to none. Hugo and Victor are to thank for both of these qualities as they’ve set the tone with their extensive knowledge combined with their excellent way of teaching the techniques while also making it fun. The culture of this gym is so easy to integrate into as the instructors have set a great culture temperature that helps everyone join in and enjoy themselves. The more advanced students are also helpful and help you learn along the way as well. The free grappling (or rolling) is always fun and competitive but I never experienced any egos there, only people willing to learn as well as help you grow. Regardless of your age or gender this is a great school and environment.
