Progress technically as a martial arts student who competes regularly in Brazilian jiu jitsu, and has aspirations to compete in MMA as well. A) Black Sheep Bjj is the first school I have been to where they use the ecological approach to teaching the art. This basically means their curriculum revolves around spending time in positions and playing jiu jitsu games in which the goal of the game is to build the skills necessary to use techniques. The instruction given takes one step back to reveal a wider view of why techniques work. This allows me to take that theory and apply it across the board to the whole game of jiu jitsu rather than just one specific technique. Best martial arts gym in El Paso — hands down. Whether you’re looking to train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) or Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Black Sheep BJJ is the place to be. This is the first jiu-jitsu gym I’ve ever trained at, and I couldn’t have asked for a better place to begin my martial arts journey. I originally joined to improve my health and fitness — and since then, I’ve lost weight, gained confidence, and found a new passion that’s made me a better person on and off the mats. Sensei Aldo and Sensei Oscar have both played a huge role in helping me change my lifestyle. Their passion for the art and genuine care for every student shines through in every class. They’ve made me fall in love with martial arts, especially now that the gym offers MMA training led by experienced pros. The environment here is what truly sets Black Sheep apart. Training feels like you’re with family, not just teammates. Everyone supports one another, and
I’m thrilled to have found such an excellent gym with a fantastic atmosphere. Coach Aldo and Oscar are incredibly welcoming and share a wealth of knowledge. I couldn't have asked for a better place or community to continue my jiu-jitsu journey. Thank you for everything! UPDATE I've been training here for over a year, and it's been an amazing experience. The coaches and members are all supportive, whether your goal is to get in shape, lose weight, compete, or just train as a hobby. They offer a variety of classes for all ages, BJJ (gi and no-gi), MMA, Judo, and kids programs. Professor Aldo and Oscar lead this gym with passion and pride. When I first reached out, I had no idea how much this place would change my life. My health has improved, I’m competing, and I’ve found an incredible community. Highly recommend!
I’ve been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over ten years, and because of my job, I’ve had the chance to live and train all over the country. Out of all the places I’ve been, Black Sheep BJJ truly stands out. The coaches here don’t just teach techniques — they build a community. Every class feels like training with family, and the level of instruction is incredible. If you’re new to Jiu-Jitsu or already experienced and want to push your game to the next level, this is the place to be. I’m genuinely grateful to be part of this team. Thank you Black Sheep BJJ.
Joining Blacksheep BJJ was my first experience with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and I couldn’t have asked for a better place to start. From day one, the atmosphere was extremely welcoming. As a beginner, that meant everything. There was no ego, just a cohesive team environment where everyone genuinely wants to see each other learn and improve. Coach Oscar is an absolute professional. His instruction is clear, detailed, and patient, especially with new students. He creates a structured environment that pushes you to go the extra mile. My first class was with gi, Coach Oscar lended me a set (I didn’t own gi at the time). If you don’t own any, don’t worry about it! They have loner gis ready to go! Since starting, my physical fitness has improved immensely, but even more than that, my confidence has grown. Blacksheep BJJ isn’t just about learning techniques—it builds discipline, resilience, and a level of confidence that carries over into every ar
