Phenomenal! I’m new to the area and visiting different academies to find a home. Alvarez Jiu Jitsu is truly top-notch! Right away when you walk in, you realize this is a HUGE facility! Massive mat space for training, clean locker rooms, and large and comfortable waiting areas for the parents. One waiting area has live video so parents can watch their children train. After that, there’s another massive space for weight training/cardio. Then we come to the owner. It was immediately clear that Professor Danny Alvarez truly cares about his students and their well-being. Not only is he teaching great jiu jitsu, but talks to everyone about nutrition and life choices. Especially the youngsters. The product he is offering is self-accountability through martial arts, and it was impressive and refreshing to see. If you are looking for great jiu jitsu and coaching from a proven practitioner and competitor, Alvarez Jiu Jitsu is the place! Thanks, P
This was my first experience in a jiu-jitsu class and went as a person with no experience. Background on my physical physique: run and workout often and needless to say, I was drenched in my own sweat after my first day. I found this place through two strong recommendations. It was exactly what I wanted it to be. Experienced trainers that were informative and well instructed, while pushing you. I’d love this place to be my home training center, unfortunately, I only come to Dallas through work and not often enough. Hoping to find a place in Cali to mimic this experience and training. Coach Alvarez (owner) met with me after my first session. He was hella cool, professional, and gave me options to train there (pro rated contracts) and also advised me on possible training sites in Cali. Will be coming back for drop in classes.
Brought my daughter down to train from our School in Detroit (Metro Jujitsu) who’s an affiliate with Alvarez. It was a very welcoming experience from the time that we informed them that we were coming and through out our visit they were very accommodating. These guys are all about jujitsu and has the hardware 🥇to show for it. I was really impressed with the facilities and and the straight forward teachings that my daughter obtained from the kids coach. Shout out to Coach KJ for showing the ability to identify my daughters weaknesses and strengths almost instantaneously and helping her strengthen her jujitsu from the time that we spent there ! With that said she has ask when is the next time we will go down to train .
At 58 years old, I am the mother of three adult young men. All have wrestled; two of them are Brazilian jiu-jitsu competitors. Originally I just wanted a way to improve my health & fitness while trying to understand my sons' competitions better. I have an artificial knee and still building back strength from surgery, severe illness and autoimmune disorders. Even with my challenges and my age, I feel very welcome at this gym. There are many advanced members in every class as well as white belts. I've been to training 5x since Memorial Day. There were two other women at last Friday's early morning class. One of the other women was in her 60s and just starting out as well. The third younger woman was a purple belt who spent time helping us learn. We had a great time, learned several moves. This is a common experience in each class, with many more females in the evening classes. Other members and the owner make sure that we always have some
Dropped into this gym for the first time last night and was honestly blown away. From the moment I walked in, everyone was welcoming and respectful, and the atmosphere was top-tier. The instruction was clear, detailed, and effective, and you could tell the coaches really care about their students’ progress—not just running a class. The room was clean, the training was high level, and the vibe was competitive but friendly. Whether you’re brand new or experienced, this place makes you feel like you belong and pushes you to get better. I left exhausted, humbled, and excited to come back. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a legit BJJ academy with great people and great training.
I have been coming to this academy for over 10 years until this month when i had to cancel my membership due to relocating. During my time at Alvarez Jiu-jitsu, I went from a day one white belt to black. Alvarez Jiu-jitsu was family to me. But what I learned doesn't just apply to the mats. It helped me with everyday life. I went through a lot of life events during my time here. The mental toughness and discipline that I learned from here helped me get through it all. I also was initially overweight and lost over 50 pounds during my first year here. Coach Alvarez wants to bring out the best in every student and will go above and beyond for them. The hardest part about relocating was having to cancel my membership, but I still plan on dropping in from time to time.
