I can’t say enough positive things about RMA Nolensville and Brentwood. I am a 50 yr old father of 3. My 11 yr old son started taking classes about a year and half ago. It is been an awesome experience for him. He has learned Jui Jitsu and so much more about himself and life. So much in fact, that it inspired me to start. Yes, a 50 yr old out of shape dad!! The main reason behind the awesome experience is Prof. Marcelo Ribeiro and his family. This is more than just a gym teaching a martial art. Prof. Marcelo is an amazing instructor that goes way above and beyond just teaching Jiu Jitsu. He REALLY cares for his students. He has a sincere very genuine concern for their well being while training and learning Jiu Jitsu. After attending classes for about 6 months I had my 50 yr old physical. When we moved to TN from IL, a friend who owns a BJJ school in the Chicago burbs said, “if your kids want to do BJJ, you’re near RMA, that’s where you need to take them.” We have a few BJJ schools closer to us and we bypass them all to attend RMA and it’s honestly been the best decision we’ve made for our youngest. He tried all the standard “ball” sports and hated them all. He’d cry and meltdown every time we told him he had practice or a game. We almost gave up but asked if he’d like to try BJJ. He absolutely LOVES it. He goes 3x per week and begs to go on his off days. This place is more than a BJJ school, it’s a family. He adores Prof Marcelo, Prof John and Coach Gabe. His confidence has improved as has his behavior and maturity. If you ask him what he wants to be when he grows up, he says “a professor at RMA…and a pizza maker.” (He’s 7 lol). Thank you RMA!
I had trained out a few jujitsu studios before moving to Nolensville. New York City, New Jersey, and Texas, but none of them made me feel more welcomed than when I walked through the doors of the RMA Jiu Jitsu Academy. You instantly feel like part of the RMA family when you are there. I was very grateful for this because I knew no one when I moved here. Now I feel like I’ve had made friends I’ll have for the rest of my life. Professor Marcelo is incredibly knowledgeable and is brilliant in the way he breaks down the art of Jiu Jitsu to his students. He knows how to meet someone where they are at, challenge them and make them better. I can’t tell you enough how grateful I am that this level of an academy is in my home town. If you have any interest at all in trying out BJJ I highly recommend you start here. You will not regret it!
