One of the top 3 places to train in Memphis. The guys here guys have a good balance of hard training and an understanding attitude. It’s a great place to get in shape and learn jiu Jitsu from people who know what they’re doing. I’ve been training for six years and this is one of my favorite places to go. The coaches are kind and genuine, their training holds up in competitions (I’ve seen them at local events) and the culture there is inviting. For anyone wanting specifics; they favor technique but also stress cardio and strength. They’re realistic about the limits of Jiujitsu without fitness and they aren’t caught up in mcdojoesque Jiujitsu nonsense. They do two minute rounds so everyone rolls with everyone which, in my opinion, helps pressure test techniques so you practice only what will work on most people. The space itself doesn’t lend itself to wrestling but the mentality doesn’t seem opposed from what I saw. There were some decent
BEST PLACE TO TRAIN JIU JITSU IN MEMPHIS. After an 8 year break from the sport, I decided to get back into Jiu Jitsu. I've tried 3 different gyms in Memphis and this is by far the best gym to train at. I've been training here for a few months. Mike is an excellent teacher. The men and women who train here are highly supportive of one another, especially newbies. It has a family feeling, and attending classes are the best part of my day throughout the week. Good mix of upper and lower belts. Highly highly recommend.
I highly recommend visiting Berserker Jiu-Jitsu if you are interested in martial arts as an adult. I tried out a class and had an amazing experience. Mike and his students are a great, welcoming, and skilled group who made me feel a part of their unit right away. I also had a blast during my trial class getting the experience to grapple--the toughest workout I've had in a long time, and one of the most rewarding! Unfortunately, I can't make classes at the moment due to my schedule, but I will be back when I can. Thank you Mike!
I’ve trained in multiple gyms but this is where I’ve found a home. I have yet to find a place more welcoming. The instruction is top notch and easy to understand. Mike breaks down the fundamentals into an easy to digest program but makes sure that advanced players are challenged too. I have seen new people come in and in short order become more difficult to deal with. You can see progression in everyone that is there and it is beyond remarkable. If you were considering training in jujitsu I would highly recommend going to this facility. It is worth every penny and more. Come play with us and find out for yourself!!
I started training with Mike Houston in my early 30’s back in 2019 to try something new after becoming a mom! I had a small athletic background with CrossFit & yoga but I didn’t know anything about grappling, wrestling or jujitsu. If you’re looking for a gym that can teach you a little bit of everything all while making it fun you’ve come to the right place. Years ago I didn’t realize the family I would inherit after stepping onto the mats, but I can honestly say these people are some of the best connections I’ve made in life! Do yourself a favor & try something new ya’ never know until you try!
I am 59 years old out of shape. I have been twice they made me feel super welcome. The lead instructor paid very good attention to the way I was tolerating class offered rest periods. The instruction was broke down so that the most inexperienced in jiu-jitsu could understand. Mike walked around to make sure everyone was getting the techniques correct. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to try jiu-jitsu.
