I have trained BJJ at a number of places over the years... with numerous multi year breaks. Harrisburg BJJ is where I finally found my "home." Dave and Gregg welcome you with open arms. They are the owners but also invested and constantly at the gyms teaching. They will even roll with you. They spend time helping you and really do care. They also have some of the best training around, incredibly affordable monthly rates, and many other perks. One of the biggest perks to me is countless classes. I could go almost every hour of the day I'm not working. I can find a class before work, on lunch break, or any time from 5 PM to 9 PM. And there's no limit to how much you go. I don't have to plan a set schedule around my busy life because if I miss one day there is always another class I can go to. I don't have to worry "oh man, I missed Monday and now there's nothing until Thursday." I can just get the feeling like I want to go right now and t
I’ll leave the same review as I did for the Lemoyne school as they are under the same umbrella. **Bonus points that you can go to any of the 5 schools (Carlisle, East Shore, Hanover, Lemoyne, and York) which provides ultimate flexibility to anyone’s schedule. Just wrapped up my first week at Harrisburg Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo East, and I can’t say enough positive things about my experience. If you are even slightly curious about martial arts, I wholeheartedly recommend you check this place out. From the moment I walked in, the instructors were incredibly approachable and friendly. They create a learning environment that is both challenging and supportive. Their expertise is obvious, but they teach in a way that is accessible to a complete beginner like myself. The student culture here is amazing as well. Everyone I have rolled with has been welcoming and focused on learning together. There are no egos, and no one is there to smash
Training at Harrisburg BJJ and Judo has been one of the best experiences of my life, and the new East Shore facility is absolutely wonderful! It's clean, spacious, has men's and women's changing rooms and showers, and the location is convenient for both East and West Shore residents. The coaches are patient and knowledgable, and the overall experience has been 100% welcoming and fun. They offer classes for adults, kids, self-defense, a women's program, and a judo program - I've been involved in all of these over the last 8 years and I can't say enough about what a great experience it has been to train with these wonderful coaches and teammates.
I am in Harrisburg regularly and have been meaning to get over here and train. Tonight, I finally did, and it was a great experience! I'm a 50 year old blue belt (old and slow!) and got to roll with a couple of brown belts and Mr. Brogan, the black belt owner of the school. Some of the guys compete in BJJ and Judo and have fought MMA, and not once did I feel like they were trying to "put it on me" or anything like that. Amazing training partners, HUGE amount of mat space that was super clean and beautiful! If you are visiting, definitely check it out. You will be welcomed with open arms! If you live locally and are looking for a school, this one should be it. Extremely solid instruction in Jitz and Judo from people who have tested it in training and competition.
Great experience and very welcoming. I live and train in Minnesota, but was going to school at Fort Indiantown Gap for 16 weeks. I joined the gym seamlessly. I trained with every instructor. Every instructor noticed I was new, shook my hand, and asked who I was. There are multiple locations, so there is a lot of opportunity to train. There is a strong number of training partners. With a great culture. I mostly attended David Brogan’s classes. David’s teaching has a nice mix of intensity, focus, and fun.
I have trained off and on for 14 years. I have refocused and devoted my time to training the last 5 consistently and it has been one of the best choices I have ever made. The things I have learned on the mats have carried over into my everyday life. My mental and physical health have never been better. The coaches and team become family and the facilities and technique are second to none. Now I train and compete nationally and am having so much fun. I am signing my son as we speak. Do yourself a favor and try the 2 week trial. I assure you that you’ll be hooked and ready to make this a part of your life too!!
