If you are looking for a place to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Judo, or self defense, this is your place! As a teenage girl who has trained here for about a year, I have felt so welcomed into this school. The coaches and students are friendly, open-minded, and willing to help anyone who wants to train. All the coaches are knowledgeable and professional with a great family-like atmosphere. I've met so many great training partners and friends through York MMA. I would highly recommend training here if you are in the York, PA area!
I've been training at York MMA on and off for well over a decade and I can say without a doubt if you live in or around that area and want the very best Mixed Martial Arts training, this is the place to seek out. Classes are safe, well supervised, very beginner friendly and highly productive. Oh and let's not leave out fun, you work hard and break a sweat for sure but you also have a lot of fun doing it. Coach George is both knowledgeable and patient with all his students. He's super encouraging with beginners but at the same time doesn't baby anyone and pushes people to be the best they can be in order to achieve their goals. I could go on and on about York MMA, that's how GOOD this place is. If you're thinking about doing MMA or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, either for yourself or for your child, check them out. You'll be glad you did trust me.
My time so far with YMMAA has genuinely been a wonderful and fulfilling experience, and one that I hope to continue for a long time. With its expert instructors, supportive community, and comprehensive training approach, it has not only enhanced my physical capabilities but also significantly boosted my mental resilience. To start, the coaches are extremely knowledgeable and are able to explain techniques in an easily comprehensible way. They’re personable and can cater to an individuals needs in this regard. Even when you have a hard time with a particular technique, the coaches continue to give you tips and try to help as much as they can with no judgement. This school has also garnered a beautiful community to support you and your journey. Everyone in the school wants to see you winning, whether that's in your personal goals or in a competition if you choose to do that. Particularly for me, as a woman, it is invaluable to find a mart
Outstanding place to train! I trained at York MMA for about a year before I moved and I still have lots of great memories. Coaches are not only knowledgeable but they make you feel like family. The teammates were very helpful. Forget everything you've hear about MMA places are the places you go get beat up. Not true at all! Every teammate took care of me and made sure I trained safely and responsibly. The workouts are intense but so much fun that you won't hate life. And you're learning to defend yourself in the process. They are worth every penny! I really miss these guys.
As someone who is interested in training in BJJ, I started searching for quality schools, a good friend of mine recamended I visit York MMA, I talked to the head instructor, and was invited to try out a class. The instruction was very well prepared, and the head instructor was ready and willing to answer questions, and help students. The students were very welcoming and helpful. I would definitely recommend this school to anyone who is interested in learning a martial art.
This was the first gym I started training at in June 2022. Every coach was super knowledgeable and made classes fun and techniques easy to digest. Everyone else that trains there was also helpful and great partners to roll with. I fell in love with the art of bjj here and if it wasn’t for a large distance move I’d still be at this gym. If you’re looking for a new place to train or just starting out this is the place to be!
