I trained at Enso Jiu Jitsu for the last 5 months and have nothing but positive things to say! I went into this having no prior martial arts/wrestling experience. Toshi, Ryan, Hans, and the other instructors are all patient both in class and in sparring. That said, they also do well at holding me accountable to challenge myself which helps learning. The Jiu Jitsu community cultivated here is amazing as well. Most members you run into are friendly and can meet you at your skill level especially if you are newer. Strong progress mindset here. I would definitely recommend Enso if you are looking to pick up Jiu Jitsu and wish to do so with an uplifting group of people.
As Judo practitioner, I joined Enso Jiu-Jitsu Portland to improve my newaza and ground game and have been hooked ever since. Toshi and Hans bring structured classes with plenty of time for drills, positional sparring and rolls through all levels. Their connection and instruction through Kesuke and Enso Jiu Jitsu in Oregon City brings lots of knowledge and training bodies when we connect schools. Our black belts Warren and Ryan who lead many of our warm ups and drills are solid instructors and Judo black belts whom I've learned with along my journey. I feel I've significantly improved in the last year and I recommend Enso Jiu Jitsu Portland. The dojo space is special and the culture is welcoming. Come get hooked like me, or at least 'heel hooked'...hahaha...
I recently returned to training after several years off the mats. If there is a place worse than being rusty that’s where I was at. The instructors and students were all very welcoming and patient at Enso Jiu Jitsu Portland. You have access to multiple black belt instructors and many of the Bridgetown Judo members (located at same building) cross-train with Enso which adds to the instruction and experience. If you want community, great instruction and a safe place to train you can’t go wrong with Enso Jiu Jitsu Portland.
Great group of humans. Very much a community feel; this isn't anyone's full time job, so pressure is low but passion is high. Everyone is serious about training and about taking care of one another and maintaining longevity in the sport, keeping things safe and respectful. It's a classic "everyone on the mat" style of dojo pedagogy, so don't expect beginner-specific classes, but it's truly better this way if you're at all serious about getting good at the sport. Membership is a great value, especially if you can swing some of the 3 weekday morning 10am classes. Really grateful I found this dojo.
I've recently started training at Enso Jiu Jitsu and am so happy! What a wonderful place to learn. Whether I'm working with a sensei or with another student, I always feel safe and know there's someone nearby who's going to help me improve my technique. The community is kind, patient, and as a beginner you'll never feel left behind. As someone with no prior experience I would recommend anyone at any level to come join! Toshi is a wonderful teacher and I'm grateful every class that I met him.
My 7year old son loves Enzo Jiujutsu. He didn’t know any thing about jiujutsu first but he quickly fell in love with it. Coaches are all kind and wonderful people. They like working with kids and kids like them. Enso is such a great community. Highly recommended.
