I really can't say enough good things about Brazilian Top Team and especially the Sellwood gym. I started in August and have learned so much from coaches Ivan and Reuben these last three months. They're both top tier jiu jitsu practitioners who meet you at your level and have a knack for distilling fundamental jiu jitsu principles that lay a solid foundation for long term growth, teaching not just raw technique but the strategy and "why" behind them. In fact, I've found so much value in the classes that I started bringing my two boys— one to the big kids class and the other with me to the adults class. And my youngest, who I honestly wasn't sure would like the classes (I was really crossing my fingers here), has really enjoyed them, and coaches Ivan and Tony have done a fantastic job working with him. Elite level coaching from truly world class Brazilian jiu jitsu coaches who are actually Brazilian and who have the medals and competition experience on the national and international stage to back up what they teach. Super professional but also very friendly and welcoming to beginners of all ability levels, I instantly felt welcome and felt like I was part of a family. Best jiu jitsu club in the state with the team and individual IBJJF medals to back up that claim.
My son just loved it! They have an incredible dynamic with the kiddos. My son never had taken Jiu-Jitsu before and after just one class he was able to do some movements. I was very touched to see them encouraging the kids to believe in themselves and actually trust that they could do the movements no matter how tall or big they were.I love that they carry the good vibes of brazilian people. This was an incredible experience with the best vibes I've ever encountered in a workout space, and I've encountered some pretty great vibes in my life. They are warm, welcoming, knowledgeable, and I was a complete and total beginner. I quickly felt safe and comfortable and I feel like I've learned so much and I've only gone to two classes. This was the gem I did not expect to find. Fantastic Jiujitsu. I am grateful for the opportunity I had to be present there
My son is 9. We used to drive all the way to Renzo Gracie in North Portland and then we discovered this place. It’s smaller, much more kid friendly, smaller class size, caring and extremely knowledgeable instructors who really care about the kids. I really really love this place for my son. He’s learning so much with a smaller, more individualized teaching. I especially love Charlie and Maria, the instructors there. They are amazing!
