Coach Tyler is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and is an excellent BJJ instructor. I’m from Los Angeles and I have been to countless gyms, so I can genuinely say that the classes here are top notch. My rowdy 6 year old nephew also trains here and he is already exhibiting better behavior at home. Unlike other BJJ kid’s program in the local area, Tyler teaches the children high quality BJJ and discipline, while also keeping the kids entertained and engaged. I highly recommend the gym for both adult and children. It’s the perfect gym for those looking to start jiu jitsu or experienced practitioners looking to learn more advance techniques. The environment is family friendly with a great deal of mat space.
I was able to drop in for an open mat with Tyler and crew. Everyone was very friendly and the range of belt levels was great. I wanted to check it out for my nieces. After talking and training with Tyler and many of the students I had no hesitation recommending them to my sister for the kids. Lots of green flags walking in the door, like kids having a separate mat space and having fun running around and multiple women at the open mat. I was told that they are in the process of moving to a larger space which tells me that they are growing and generally gyms only grow when the students like and coaches and are finding the success they want in the gym, which was another good sign. I will be dropping in with them again next time I am in town.
I’ve known Professor Tyler Murrah through the training community for a long time. He has filled the role of friend, coach, teacher, training partner, and occasionally life motivator. Through this time, I’ve found him to be an engaging, motivated, and enthusiastic teacher. Combined with his incredible knowledge of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, this yields a high quality learning and training experience. Professor Tyler possesses the unique ability to reach down into a human being and extract ability and performance above the average humans capability. Your grappling competency is in good hands here.
I recently left a gym in Moore because of unethical behavior by the coach. Scrap City has not only offered a safe place to train, but after a few weeks of classes I am learning details that I've missed previously. There are many women at this gym and they are all super welcoming and helpful! The coach has a way of teaching that gives you the details you need to be successful without overwhelming. I'm very happy to be training here and am looking forward to each day! I would highly recommend Scrap City!!
Professor Tyler is an awesome coach and world champion jiu jitsu player! Not only is he a serious and determined competitor, but he is just as dedicated to his students as he is to himself. He runs a respectful gym. No toxicity! And he adjusts his teaching methods to all ages. Doesn’t matter how old you are or if you’re a man or woman, professor Tyler is the man. Go train at Scrap City if you’re wanting to have a higher self-image and want to feel confident that you can protect yourself.
I trained with Tyler when we were white belts under Lovato, Jr. I used to call him Brock Lesnar because he was so ridiculously strong and athletic. A few years after Lovato's, I trained with him at The Forge. He was SOOO technical.... even back in the day he was a fantastic training partner; able to explain what, how, and why he was doing something to make a technique work. Incredibly nice guy. Super humble. Smart. Friendly. Helpful. Can't say enough nice things about him. I hope he reads this and gets embarrassed at me gushing over how happy I am for him!
