Our sons, 12 and 7 years of age, had the privilege of attending the first Junior Sharks class on opening day at the McHugh Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Cherry Hill location, and we just want to tell ALL of Cherry Hill that we, as a community, are extremely blessed to have this world-class jiu-jitsu school right in our own neighborhood. The owner and lead instructor, Coach Russ, is a former teacher who is living proof of how transformational jiu-jitsu is: body, mind, and spirit – ask him about it! He is truly passionate about sharing this life-changing martial art with people of every age, and he was many years of experience doing just that. I myself have benefited tremendously from Coach Russ’ teaching and encouragement in my own journey. He is a proven and skilled practitioner, gifted at breaking down techniques, highlighting key nuances that make a world of difference, and communicating in such a relatable way. I had trained with McHugh BJJ 2019 thru 2020 when COVID shut down the world. I stopped training. I always loved the training and when I heard Coach Russ was opening McHugh BJJ Cherry Hill, I knew it was time to get back. The depth of instructors at McHugh BJJ from Professor Pete McHugh down provide and accepting, welcoming environment to train in. From kids up to adults McHugh BJJ is the premier BJJ academy in the area! The first step onto the mat is the hardest but Coach Russ will make it worth it and you’ll wonder why you did not start sooner!
When I heard that Russ was taking the position of lead instructor at the new McHugh Jiu Jitsu location in Cherry Hill I was both happy for Russ and his opportunity and happy for the students he'll be working with. I've been attending McHugh Jiu Jitsu in Marlton for about a year and a half. In that time the entire community has been fantastic. It is an academy that is welcoming and safe and high level. Russ embodies these aspects that make training in the McHugh community so unique and great. He is someone that really cares and helps me to evolve my technique, often pointing out even small nuance during drilling or rolling that helps me turn a corner and improve. Russ loves Jiu Jitsu and it comes across in his teaching. He is clear, precise, accessible and keeps the class fun while delivering effective instruction. Russ is a natural teacher and I look forward to seeing him and the new academy grow. I'll be stopping by!

McHugh BJJ's mission is to make world class jiu jitsu accessible to everyone. I am proof that they accomplish this! I'm a 46 year old mom of 2 with no previous martial arts experience .. training 4-5 times a week with my best friends under the best instructors. McHugh BJJ Cherry Hill and Lead Instructor, Russ, will undoubtedly spread the broad mission to more of South Jersey. Cherry Hill and surrounding areas are lucky to now have McHugh BJJ in their backyard. You won't regret stepping onto the mat. Your only regret will be that you didn't start sooner!!!!

Coach Russ and Chief are some of the nicest, most down-to-earth people you’ll meet, and they’ve created a training environment that feels safe, supportive, and welcoming. Coach Russ has a great eye for detail and truly cares about his students’ growth. Training jiu-jitsu here is not only fun, but also a great way to build resilience, strength, and confidence.
