New Wave Jiu Jitsu under the leadership of Tahir Sharif is nothing short of exceptional and world class. I’ve trained here consistently 2–5 times per week for the past two years, and it has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. The focused drilling goes far beyond rote technique; it delves into the broader systems and conceptual framework of jiu jitsu, especially with a strong emphasis on positional escapes and strategic movement. Whether you're rolling with a black belt or someone on their first day, there is a rare balance of humility, hospitality, and mutual respect that is pervasive in this gym culture. Higher belts grow deeper in their own understanding by training with everyone, and lower belts are challenged and encouraged without ever being patronized or demeaned. This is a gym where egos are checked at the door, and character is forged on the mats. You will be pushed to your physical and mental limits, onl
Indy's best kept secret. A wonderful atmosphere to practice BJJ for the entire family. Tahir, the owner is really encouraging, welcoming and a problem solver. Ive appreciated all of the instructors I've met and the community, students, and parents have been warm and inviting. They offer classes for ages 3-5 BJJ and 6+ BJJ classes, as well as Adult Jiu Jitsu, Youth & Adult Judo, Muay Thai, and Wrestling. I would recommend this gym to any person or family looking to improve in martial arts or wrestling, as well as improve their physical and mental health. New Wave is a supportive environment with expert instructors. As a beginner I am in the same class with advanced belts and I feel like I'm already learning so much and my family is loving it as well. Professor/Coach Gabriel (squared) has been really kind and patient with me and I feel super lucky to have found New Wave.
New Wave BJJ has been absolutely amazing for my daughter in the 3–5 year old class. The coaches are patient, encouraging, and do a fantastic job balancing structure with fun so the kids stay engaged while learning. I’ve seen her confidence, coordination, and focus grow every week. What really stands out is how the instructors make every child feel welcome and successful, no matter their experience level. It’s clear they genuinely care about the kids, and it shows in the positive atmosphere of every class. We couldn’t be happier to have found New Wave BJJ—it’s been such a great experience for our family!
My 4 year old son has been attending New Wave for a little while now, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. When we first started, I wasn’t sure how he would take to jiu jitsu at such a young age, but the instructors here have been incredible. They are so patient, encouraging, and really know how to work with the kids. What I love most is how the teachers balance structure with encouragement. I can already see his confidence and coordination growing week by week. If you’re considering enrolling your child in jiu jitsu, I can’t recommend New Wave enough. The atmosphere is welcoming and the instructors are great. It’s been such a positive experience for our whole family.
New Wave Jiu Jitsu has been a great place for me to train. I have been here for a little over a year now and have made some good friends. The instructors are great. I absolutely love their attention to detail. I think I am the oldest person that trains consistently but I still feel like a put up a decent fight with the young bucks that are half my age. The students are eager to learn and willing to help others improve. This is a place where you can be serious as well as crack a joke from time to time. The establishment is clean and well maintained. It offers tons of amenities as well as other classes like Judo and Kickboxing. Everyone is very welcoming and you never feel left out. I encourage any and everyone to come check us out.
