Professor Mauricio "Tinguinha" Mariano has been a black belt for well over 20 years and it shows in his academy. I've had the pleasure to train under his tuteledge and leadership in one capacity or another over the course of the past 9 years, and for the last 5 of those, I've had to make at least a 30 mile commute to make it to class. His level of safety, professionalism and camaraderie keep me coming back, day in and day out, week after week, month after month, year after year. His academy is well-rounded and safe for both beginners and experts alike. Should you wish to focus on the sport, self defense or fitness, Tinguinha and his staff are able to meet your needs. Professor Tinguinha teaches all of the classes himself - something that is unheard of for someone as renowned as himself within the jiu jitsu community. This means his eye is consistently on your training and he is able to provide appropriate feedback to foster continued gr
I have been at this gym for over six years and this academy has an amazing wealth of instructors, training partners and just all round makes everyone feel welcomed and part of the team. No matter your experience level, the head coach is invested in your progress and will push you to be the best version of yourself on and off the mats. The team itself is a group of great people that are always willing to help out and work with you to achieve your goals no matter if you want to compete or just gain a healthier lifestyle. I have been training here for a long time now and honestly I am so thankful to be a part of this team. Mauricio is an excellent professor and truly cares for the wellbeing and progress of his students. To be a part of this team you sort of join a family here that builds each other up. Everyone wants everyone to succeed and try their hardest here. Many of the people that join this gym usually stay here for a long time and I think aside from the high competitive skill level of this gym, the atmosphere is welcoming and fun. Highly recommend this gym, you will not regret it.

As someone who had zero experience in brazilian jiu-jitsu, I was welcomed by everyone. I been going to Tinguinha BJJ Academy for 3 months now and I enjoy how Mauricio pushes me every class. If you want to learn bjj and are new to it, I would highly recommend this place.
