After searching through different schools, we stumbled across GB Whittier via Yelp. First impressions of the place is that it’s clean and orderly (I’ve passed there many times over the years but never inside). We went over the weekend and my 6 year old was crying 😭 because he didn’t know what to expect. Alex, the owner was very courteous and informative. My son was very hesitant but we convinced him to try the 3-day pass to try it out. Alex wasn’t pushy or eager to sell us any memberships off the bat. Today we went to his first intro class and I must say, Alan LOVED IT 🥰. He immediately engaged with the instructors and students. All of the kids were very nice and those he paired with were helpful in teaching him the loves. We signed him up right away after the first class. Looking forward to a nice, long relationship with team GB Whittier.
Greetings, I came across this gym and procrastinated to join for about a year as I was intimidated but finally built up the courage to reach out and finally give it a try. BJJ is a physical sport and was nervous it was going to be a Cobra Kai scenario (silly me). But that’s far from the truth, from the first day I joined the gym had a brotherhood atmosphere, the instructor/professors are welcoming and friendly, everyone in the class is more then willing to give a helping hand and everyone is locked in to get better and displayed the utmost respect to holding up the legacy of the Gracie name. The class is challenging and is physically demanding but with the open arms this gym has provided, is more than positive to push your limits to give you the tools to be a better person and fighter.
GB Whittier is a wonderful resource staffed by well trained jiu jitsu professors/instructors. They are dedicated to the success of their students. We've been part of the little champs I & II for over a year now and glad we joined this academy. Many of the older students, teens & adults, take a genuine interest in the young kids and help out with drills. The staff is laid back, open to suggestions and always looking for ways to improve. The training mat is spacious and accommodates a fairly large group of students. Drop by and check it out for yourself.
I had a pretty bad time with martial arts as a kid, I wasn't that good, I had trouble with the other kids, etc etc etc. So when my Dad started going here and encouraged me to come with I was skeptical but eventually my depression and add hit an all time low, with nothing to lose I decided to try one class out, and was amazed by what I learned. Everyone there was positive out going and I felt right at home. The instructors helped me actually learn what I was doing and my sparring partner was a great guy. Definently coming back for more, my only regret is not starting sooner.
