I believe that everyone, I do mean everyone, should take Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) classes. As a sport, BJJ will improve overall fitness and other important athletic traits like balance, flexibility, and mental toughness. Unfortunately, not all BJJ facilities and instructors are created equal. Over the past 8 years, I have trained at several other MMA/BJJ gyms in OC. In my experience, some gyms create high pressure environments and develop specialized curriculum only for serious athletes who want to compete. Other gyms are more interested in making as much money as possible from their students and will therefore pressure their members to shell out extra cash to purchase private lessons and charge fees for belt testing opportunities. Fortunately for me, I have been able to be involved with the instructors from One Jiu Jitsu and Fitness for the past several years. I can confidently state that all of the instructors from One Jiu Jitsu and
This place is amazing. As a former Army combatives instructor, and former law enforcement, I wanted somewhere for my 5 year old daughter to learn jiu-jitsu. I am so glad we found ONE jiu-jitsu. Watching her go from a 5 year old with a high energy, low attention span, to a high energy, highly focused, disciplined competitor has been a highlight of being a father. The instructors are all great with the kids and the classes are top notch. Saturdays are shorter classes, but they're my favorite because the kids usually get to roll with each other. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to any parent looking for jiu-jitsu classes for their kids of any age or skill level. (Update: we've been doing jujitsu for 2 years and Having moved around the country a bit the last year and ending up back at One I am even more impressed with the level of training my daughter absorbs here compared to other locations we've been to.)
One Jiujitsu and Fitness is a great place to learn the art of jiujitsu with top notch instructors and equally great team mates. Giva and Mo are world class practitioners and instructors, and really care about the art and their members. If you're brand new to the sport, Mo and/or Giva will pull you aside to work with you one-on-one during class to teach you the basics, so that you don't feel overwhelmed. They also provide fundamentals class specific to white belts, so don't feel anxious if you don't know anything yet! The facility is extremely clean and there's also a shower! The location is great as its only a 15-20 minute drive from my home in Irvine/Tustin area, and about the same distance from my work in Santa Ana. If you are looking to improve your jiujitsu or simply wish to try it out, I would recommend One Jiujitsu and Fitness. The environment Mo and Giva have fostered is of respect, fun, and it is great for people of all ages and
My son started training under Giva 4 years ago when he was 10 years old. He participated in the kids class I myself joined 2 years later when I could not resist the temptation to train and learn from one of the best jiu Jitsu professionals in the world. My son loved going to the kids class. Giva has a great way with the kids and makes the class not only instructional but also fun. My son not only enjoyed it so much but also learned a lot. Having entered his teens and grown so tall, my son now attends the adult class, where he is fully accepted by everyone. Mo and Giva have created a school where everyone is welcome. This is another aspect that attracted me to this school. The group consists of people of all ages and types. It includes people like me that see it as a hobby and a way to learn the art and remain physically fit, athletes that take it more seriously that like to complete, as well as teenagers. Everyone is welcome and the atm
I've been training BJJ with Giva for almost 8 years and there's a reason why, he is a great instructor and an even better human being. Mo is also a wealth of knowledge and truly cares about each one of the students. The environment at ONE Jiujitsu and Fitness is very close knit and positive. There's a mix of serious competitors, people looking to learn self-defense, working professionals, college students, and children, so no matter what your background/goals are, you are sure to find a home here. The facility is also one of the cleanest that I have seen. Some of the highest level of instruction and training for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, whether it be for sport BJJ, MMA, self-defense, or just a good workout.
One Jiu Jistu and Fitness is a great, clean facility. I really enjoy the instruction from Giva and Mo that I ultimately followed them to this location when they decided to branch off. Each instructor is very patient and will take the time to demonstrate and explain the details of each move to the class. This is especially good for me as it usually takes a few minutes of demonstrating a new move before I begin to understand how to complete it. Overall, the training atmosphere is very relaxed and all the members are friendly and always willing to help when I have questions. Whether your goal is to compete in BJJ tournaments or just to improve your overall fitness, I would highly recommend One Jiu Jitsu and Fitness.
