Come here! if you want to learn Jiu Jitsu in a clean and safe space. Sunnyvale Jiu Jitsu is an ideal place to train whether you are just starting out or are an advanced Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. I like to train in gi, but there's also no gi if that's your preference. Though I am fine rolling with guys, as an older female, its cool that there are also a lot of women I can train with here. I work full-time and have an inconsistent schedule but there are always classes available that work for me. They also have an open mat on Sundays where you can roll with a variety of different people, apply your skills and improve your technique. Jian is most excellent and his team of instructors are top notch—-patient, experienced, and kind. I highly recommend this school!
I just visited SJJ today and wow, I can’t put into words how amazing the experience was. I’ll try though 😂 So first and foremost what you will experience is an inviting atmosphere. The facility is just amazing, super clean, changing area, bright lights, music, etc. but it’s the students and coaches that are the main draw here. Super welcoming and setting the tone for the culture of the school. And oh yeah, their technical abilities are top notch. What’s great is when you watch the coaches training, you can see just how good they are. Efficient movement, timing, and sharp technique. The students there were an extension of this and were so friendly and smiles. And their jiujitsu was sharp and technical. I sparred from blue belt all the way up to black today and this place will be an amazing spot for the beginner but also high level practitioners (I’m a 3rd deg blackbelt and Jian is no joke wth!) I run my own school in Fremont and I can be
I recently restarted jiu jitsu after moving to the area. I have seen myself and others improve a lot, and this is thanks to the solid teaching and emphasis on foundation by the instructors here. The environment is very friendly, safe, and welcoming. We are a close community where most of us know each other by name! I look forward to coming to Sunnyvale jiu jitsu everyday after work:) Many people in our academy also compete so if you are looking for that side of jiu jitsu, the instructors do a great job preparing us.
I can’t say enough good things about this gym! From the moment I walked through the door, I felt welcomed and supported, regardless of my skill level. The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and passionate about teaching. They break down techniques clearly and offer individualized feedback to help you grow. The atmosphere here is both challenging and encouraging. Everyone—from the coaches to the more advanced students—fosters a respectful, ego-free environment where learning and improvement are the top priorities. I’ve made real progress in my technique, conditioning, and confidence since joining. What truly sets this gym apart is the sense of community. It feels like a second home, with people who are genuinely invested in each other’s success both on and off the mats. If you’re thinking about starting BJJ or looking for a new place to train, I highly recommend giving this gym a try.
My girls have been going to Sunnyvale jiujitsu for about a year and have had a great experience. They’re learning new skills in a fun and supportive environment. The coaches are great and the girls were even able to compete in a tournament less than a year in. The training has helped them develop strength, skills, and confidence. Jian and his team are great (amazing that his wife, Bri, knew my name basically from the very beginning as well) and run a great place for kids (and people of all ages) to learn jiujitsu.
Amazing academy and atmosphere! Super clean, with great training partners and coaches.
