I'm beyond stoked that a Gracie Barra academy opened up in Santa Clarita Valley!! Not only does this dojo have a great curriculum for learning self defense but their fundamental techniques for sport Jiu jitsu are second to none. This academy in particular is very well maintained by the owner, someone who is genuinely passionate about Jiu jitsu. He makes sure the mats are clean and the bathrooms always spotless. An important aspect for any Jiu jitsu academy is the professor/coaches and how they teach. At Gracie Barra Valencia the classes are taught in great detail and the professor/coaches make sure you're doing the techniques correctly. The environment and students are welcoming to all and encourage everyone to give Jiu jitsu a try. I highly recommend this academy to anyone that is thinking about learning some effective self defense techniques and looking to get a solid cardio workout in.
Gracie Barra Valencia is amazing! My my 8 yr old son has been training under Professor Edgar now for almost 3 years and I just started training earlier this year. He is a fantastic teacher. Patient, encouraging and funny, but if you or your kid need to learn discipline, he is not afraid of calling you/them out. His positivity and enthusiastic approach makes every class enjoyable. The gym is always clean and well lit, and has sufficient seating for parents who want to watch their kids train. If you’re looking for quality BJJ in the Santa Clarita Valley, this is your spot.
Great coaching here, instructors are incredible and offer unique perspectives for different techniques. Great training partners, very respectful team of peers. The curriculum is based on the Gracie system and is very effective for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments or self defense. The mats and facility are very clean. I highly recommend training here!
I dropped in for a fundamentals class while visiting the area from another state. I was very impressed with the quality of instruction, the training partners and how welcoming everyone was. Professor Edgar and the team will make sure that you are doing the techniques correctly and as effectively as possible. The more intimate setting made it easier to learn compared to the bigger Dojos. I was treated with utmost respect during my visit and encouraged to return. If I was from the area I wouldn't hesitate to train at Gracie Barra Valencia.
I joined Gracie Barra Valencia the day they opened (06/2017) and it is the best decision I have ever made. When I joined I was not in the most desirable shape and felt a bit intimidated, but Professor Robert, Coach Edgar, and Coach DK were excellent at guiding me through the process and making me feel like I was capable. 18 months later I have become the best version of myself and still continue to feel like I make improvements on a daily basis because I have Gracie Barra Valencia. I am so convinced this place is beneficial for both mind and soul that I also have both my daughters involved. They are about to complete their first year of consistent training and I also see the positive change in them. They have become more resilient and willing to deal with challenges, and there discipline level is more than I could have ever taught them on my own. Thank you, Gracie Barra Valencia.
An excellent place to learn and practice Jiu-Jitsu. The coach and his team are excellent, offering a safe place for everyone, including children and women. Kids will learn more than Jiu-Jitsu; they learn tips on living and handling life challenges. I definitely recommend it to anyone serious about learning self-defense.
