San Lorenzo BJJ (SLZBJJ) is a very warm and welcoming jiu jitsu school. The students are very respectful to each other and guests. They make sure to acknowledge everyone who comes through the door, which can be a huge relief when you’re doing drop ins or trial classes because you instantly feel like you belong there. This hospitable nature may very well have been learned from Professor Manny, the proprietor, who always greets his students and guests. SLZBJJ is more of a hobbyist gym, rather than some gyms that are heavily competition focused. This doesn’t mean that the students don’t roll hard, but there’s less emphasis on podium placing. Professor Manny has a keen memory for faces and names, he seemed to have learned my name immediately, which I found surprising, especially given how many people pass through the doors of SLZBJJ. Professor Manny is also very humble and understanding, he doesn’t foster a harsh culture that some schools h
So I been doing Jiu jitsu for already 5 plus years now except during the time covid hit. I took off the entire 2020 and early 2021. I was giving the ok to start training at end of 2021 so I was in search of a new school . I went on Yelp and found this place. What drew me to the school was reading the comments in the review section that Professor Manny got his black belt from Caio Terra down in San Jose. If you know anything about Jiu jitsu, you know of Caio Terra. So I reached out to Professor Manny Via Instagram. we connect and come to find out Manny is not affiliated with any school so I was kinda hesitant to come being that my mind was set on Caio. Anyway I decided to just go ahead and try out a free class that they offered here and man I have to say that I wanted to sign during that free class. I felt the love and humbleness from not just Professor Manny but the rest of the guy’s and girls that train there. The school all together i
I’ve been training at San Lorenzo Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for about 6 months now, and it has truly had a positive impact on my life. I’ve lost a noticeable amount of weight and gained previously undiscovered confidence in myself. Everyone at San Lorenzo BJJ was friendly and fun, and they were serious about training BJJ. Professor Manny has created a community of people that care about training and growing as martial artists. It is few and far between to find people who are as dedicated to teaching as Professor Manny. San Lorenzo BJJ is a welcoming and supportive environment for BJJ training at all levels, with skilled instructors who provide clear technique instruction and personalized attention, making it a great place to learn and develop your grappling skills. The classes are very well researched, based upon extensive experience, and set in a format to learn through muscle memory. I have felt incredibly welcome since the day I walked in
Highly Recommend BJJ gym in the East Bay! San Lorenzo BJJ is an excellent program. Great for beginners and seasoned grapplers alike. Manny is a great instructor who provides clear and informative classes. The community that's been cultivated here is welcoming and kind. Everyone is incredibly supportive and friendly. I've been attending here since May 2024 and I've grown so much not only as a beginner Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner, but as a person as well.
A truly welcoming and community driven environment. I’ve been training here for roughly around 7ish months. Coach Manny is a great instructor, mentor, and friend. My BJJ journey makes huge leaps of progress because of the knowledge from coach manny and also my peers. I can’t stress enough how great of a gym San Lorenzo BJJ is. If you’ve been thinking about trying jiu jitsu, here’s your chance. Come try it out with us!!
Very friendly gym that’s great for anyone starting or has been training for some time. Manny, the owner and head instructor, has always welcomed me for open mats or regular classes, which is something I really appreciate. The atmosphere is very friendly, but you will get quality rolls in. The mat is not only very spacious but extremely clean. This is a very well-kept space. I always enjoy my time rolling at SLBJJ.
