I can't recommend Studio86 Jiu Jitsu enough! From the moment you step onto the mats, you're greeted with a warm, welcoming community and a top-notch instructor, Yukito, who truly knows his stuff. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned practitioner, this is the place to train. Coach Yukito has an incredible ability to break down techniques into clear, easy-to-understand steps, making even the most complex moves feel accessible. He also fosters an environment of mutual respect and support, where everyone—from first-timers to black belts—feels valued and encouraged. The gym itself has a strong emphasis on hygiene and safety. You can tell they care about maintaining a clean, professional space. The community here is equally amazing—no egos, just a group of people passionate about jiu jitsu and helping each other grow. If you're considering trying out jiu jitsu, Studio86 is the perfect place to start your journey. And if you're exp
We LOVE Studio86! Coach Yukito, coach Flora and the entire team are incredibly patient and skilled instructors who make BJJ fun for kids. My 3 kids ages 6,10, and 14 has gained so much confidence and discipline since joining. The classes focus on age-appropriate movements, using games and engaging activities to teach techniques, making it more like playtime than serious training. The atmosphere at Studio86 is very welcoming, like a big family. Everyone, from the coaches to the other students, is very supportive and helpful. We are so happy we found this studio! It's a fantastic place for kids to learn BJJ, build confidence, and have a great time.
HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! So glad I found this place and was able to train here whilst I was visiting SF. Studio 86 BJJ is one of those rare gyms that instantly feels like home. It has a real neighbourhood vibe, is super welcoming with friendly training partners, and an atmosphere that makes you want to come back. At the same time, it’s a high-level academy with clean, well-maintained, very clean facilities. Yukito, the instructor, has competed at a very high level, is extremely technical, and I learned so much from him even in just five sessions. I also tried another gym in SF, but it didn’t come close to the open and inviting culture that Studio 86 offers.
Studio86 is an amazing gym and a great environment to learn in! Coach Yukito creates a welcoming and exciting atmosphere for training. He makes sure everyone stays engaged, is always learning something new, and feels supported, whether you’re interested in competing or simply looking for a place to train. Everyone here is friendly and eager to help. Even on my first day, Coach Yukito and the other students were willing to walk me through techniques and exercises, offering helpful pointers along the way. I highly recommend this gym to anyone who wants to learn jiu jitsu alongside a group of passionate and supportive individuals!
I dropped in to Studio 86 for a week of training during my vacation to SF. Yukito's classes were right to the point and were split evenly between positional drilling (1 to 2 techniques with details dropped in throughout) followed by an hour of roll time. I went 4 days out of my 6 day trip! I got pushed for a tough roll from pretty much everyone, I would also add that pretty much everyone had good mat awareness and etiquette. Its clear that Yukito has planned Studio 86 to be a highly inclusive and safe enviroment for anyone at any skill level, gender, background to come out and train, get good, and be part of a very healthy BJJ community. I would for sure come back to train any time I come out to SF. Much thanks Studio 86 squad!
Have been both a regular member and now a frequent drop-in when visiting San Francisco for work. This is a wonderful place, spotlessly clean, and home to a beautiful community. People who are powerful in their expression of kindness, and kind in their expression of force. Head instructor Yukito is a true martial artist, who leads by example and teaches with great patience and understanding, as well as respect for the art’s many styles. He teaches Brazilian Jiujitsu as a sport, as a self defense practice, and as an art in its purest form. For me, Studio86 was the heart of the neighborhood. I hope you enjoy. Two hour sessions, six days a week. Bring water.
