I am a very happy member of both the Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai classes at this gym. It's genuinely amazing: a perfect mix of fun and high standards, always respecting everyone's level. No misplaced ego, just a safe and welcoming space for all genders—something rare and greatly appreciated, thanks to the fantastic coaches. I started Jiu Jitsu as a complete newbie, with no prior grappling or ground experience (and honestly, I am still one, but with a bit more experience now, haha). Travis, the Jiu Jitsu coach, along with the whole community, made me feel welcome right away. The atmosphere is both competitive and supportive, and although I felt a bit intimidated initially, that fear quickly faded. I'm also new to Muay Thai, though I have previous experience in stand-up fighting (Karate black belt and former assistant instructor). Still, Muay Thai feels so different and exciting—it brings back that beginner's joy. The clinching, knees, and el
For any beginners on the fence about making the commitment whether it’s the fear of being injured, the technique might be too complicated, or it’s just intimidating to put yourself out there I can promise you that the environment is very safe and friendly. Before training at Magalit BJJ, I had no experience in BJJ but I had goals in mind being that I wanted to learn the ground game and possibly even compete one day. After having my first class with Travis and talking with him about my goals, he has been able to help me get closer to hitting those goals and become more knowledgeable about the martial art. The gym is full of students that want to be there and learn, some for competition, some for fitness, and some just to keep themselves active. Although everyone has there own reason for being there, the community as a whole is very uplifting by helping each other to better themselves, ego doesn’t really have a space here. Both Travis and
I was always really nervous in trying out a martial art gym because of many reasons: I'm scared that I'll hold everyone else back in class, it's embarrassing, I'm intimidated. All my reasons and doubts went out the window the first day training with Travis. He was really welcoming. His students were really welcoming too! This only means that he's providing the right type of culture, respect, and a sense of family. He is seriously an amazing instructor. He is very detailed in every move he teaches. He would demonstrate a move in different levels: beginner, intermediate, and advance so that it caters to everyone in class. Every move is broken down step by step. He would explain when it is appropriate to apply the move and a counter to it. When it is time for live roll, he doesn't hesitate to give you pointers while you roll with others. He would also adjust to you when he's rolling with you. So if you're a beginner like me, don't get inti
Travis has been so awesome and welcoming since day 1. He truly cares about his students, and has created an amazing learning environment for all students. It’s clear that he’s extremely passionate about his craft and teaching equally. Both Jr and Alex are very knowledgeable, helpful, and encouraging in their classes. We’re also very lucky to have coach Suzie as the instructor for the women’s only classes! She’s just as passionate, encouraging, and knowledgeable as all other coaches. I’ve been training with this team for a few years now and I can say this team is 1 of 1. Definitely recommend this school to anyone who wants to train bjj or get a good workout in with a great group of people!
Not only does Magalit BJJ have a friendly and welcoming environment, they have excellent fundamentals classes for beginners, making it a great place to start your Jiu-Jitsu journey. Travis and his team teach practical techniques with a focus on proving them in competition. Travis’ instruction is clear and concise, and he’s always willing to answer questions and help you tweak a technique to fit your (or your opponent’s) body type. In addition to being a great place to start, they’ve got a strong community of high-level practitioners as well, so it’s great place to train regardless of your skill level!
Awesome gym! I came in on a Thursday night for 6 PM no gi class. Coach Travis greeted me and welcomed me into his class. He taught a great class and showed great technique. I also hopped in the Muay Thai class. Coach Rocky taught the class. He’s a great coach too and was very friendly. I will be back when I’m in town! Magalit Jiu Jitsu 10/10.
