Colhado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy reviews

Rated 5.0/5 across 55 Google reviews.

Colhado Jiu-Jitsu is hands down one of the best places to train, whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced competitor. Led by Professor Matheus Colhado, a highly skilled black belt, this academy provides world-class instruction with a focus on both technique and strategy. Every class is taught with precision, ensuring that students not only learn the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but also develop discipline, confidence, and a strong work ethic. One of the standout aspects of Colhado Jiu-Jitsu is its family-friendly atmosphere. The gym offers structured children's classes that provide a fun and safe environment for kids to build confidence, discipline, and self-defense skills. At the same time, adult classes cater to all levels, from hobbyists looking to stay in shape to serious competitors aiming to refine their craft. Beyond the welcoming environment, Colhado Jiu-Jitsu is home to a highly competitive team. The academy has produ
I started training BJJ under Coach Matheus back in 2017. From the very beginning I was greeted with a warm welcome not just from Matheus, but all the other long standing black belts and training partners. The coaching is top level and the atmosphere that’s been built there is geared towards developing the beginners as opposed to focusing solely on the colored belts. It has a nice mix of males and females with females only classes held weekly. This is also a great place to take your kids and give them the benefits of BJJ with the multiple lessons scheduled during the week. The jiu jitsu is top level, and you will leave each class on a high whether you spent the night getting tapped or caught a submission or two during the 30 mins of open mat at the end of each class. I have since relocated but I visit SF on an annual basis, and will always pay my first BJJ gym a visit to relish the same experience I had from the day I first started train
Probably the best and most amazing Jiu Jitsu center in SF, maybe even California. The staff is truly like family, they care, they help and they are rock star coaches/instructors. My sons have been going for a few years and they absolutely love the classes as well as the people. It's a true community. I can't say enough good things about Colorado Jiu Jitsu staff and the way they care for my kids. Both my boys look forward to their classes every day and I love the discipline, self control and self defense that they are learning. My only regret is not signing them up when they were 3-4 years old. I feel like we missed out!
I've been going here since 2014 and this academy is top notch. Everyone is welcoming from the white belts all the way to the black belts. There is no ego in this place. Professor Matheus not only teaches jiu-jitsu but would also train the students in judo, striking, self-defense, and more. He does this so that we can incorporate those techniques in our jiu-jitsu training. You can really see his influence in the quality of training that you will get from the other professors that learned from him. You are also guaranteed a full body workout each time you attend class. And most importantly, you will build self-confidence as you learn and grow. I highly recommend that you give this place a try.
I've trained at many academies all over the world and I am thankful that Colhado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy is where I call home. Professor Matheus Colhado is a fantastic instructor who teaches high level techniques while breaking them down to into easy to understand parts. The school has a family friendly vibe with top notch training partners. If you are looking to try Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or getting back into it, check out Colhado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy. You will be glad you did!
I trained here for over a decade before moving for work. My teammates were my second family. The relationships I built during that time were invaluable. I also can't say enough about head instructor Professor Matheus. His jiu jitsu is world class. I recently received my black belt and I would not have done it without everything he had taught me while I trained under him. He transformed my game and helped me gain success in tournaments. If you want to train at an innovative school with highly skilled practitioners, this is the place!
