I’ve been training consistently at Nimbus BJJ for the past few months, and it's been a fantastic addition to my martial arts journey. Coming from a striking background (boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai), I was new to BJJ, but Coach Raul has created an environment that makes learning approachable, engaging, and fun. His classes are thoughtfully structured: warmups begin with relevant games that are quite enjoyable, followed by technical instruction and drilling that focus on just one or two themes per week. This intentional pacing has really helped with knowledge retention and practical application (especially since I can make it to about 2-3 classes per week). What sets Nimbus apart even more is the Saturday adult class, which consists entirely of "ecological" task-based games. This format has been great for applying what I’ve learned in real-time, while also building my fitness and mat awareness. Rahul himself is not only experienced and
Nimbus BJJ is an awesome spot tucked away in the Sunset. I’m brand new to Jiu Jitsu and wasn’t sure what to expect, but Coach Raul made the first few classes feel super approachable and engaging. It’s all no-gi, and each class is packed with useful techniques and lots of rolling. Even as a beginner, I feel like I’m learning fast because everything is broken down in a way that actually sticks. Coach Raul is great at explaining things without overcomplicating them, and he keeps the vibe fun but focused. The people here are chill, helpful, and really just here to train hard and improve. No egos, no weird energy, just solid people and good training. If you’re in the Sunset and thinking about trying Jiu Jitsu, this place is definitely worth checking out. I’m hooked! (Get it?)
I've been training with coach Raul for over 4 years now. I studied jiu jitsu for about a year almost 20 years ago before getting back into it 5 years ago. The first thing I did was to take a private lesson with coach Raul. His patience, passion, and clear communicating ability helped make my decision to return to the art easy. Its hard to find an instructor who is like that-- someone who can make an older practitioner like me motivated enough to come back 5 years and counting- with competitions to boot. Another add-on-- I lost my very first match in my first competition. Coach Raul had the most relaxed, cool response that made me feel a lot better about it. Something you can't teach, but that you learn from observing. Highly recommend coach here
I’ve been training with Coach Raul for 3 ½ years now, and I can confidently say that he is an outstanding Jiu-Jitsu instructor. Raul has a remarkable ability to break down techniques into clear, easy-to-understand explanations. His patience and attention to detail have been key to my progress over the years. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have some experience, I highly recommend his school. Raul creates a welcoming environment for all levels of practitioners. His approach is both practical and effective. I’ve learned so much from him. If you’re serious about improving your Jiu-Jitsu, I can't recommend Raul enough!
I’ve been training with Raul for the past two months, and it’s been a great experience. His training structure is not only effective but also really engaging. He incorporates ecological games that make learning both fun and practical. Raul creates a welcoming environment from the moment you walk in, and his friendly personality makes training feel approachable no matter your skill level. I’ve learned a ton from him in a short amount of time. His deep knowledge of jiu-jitsu shows in the way he explains concepts and helps you apply them in live situations. Highly recommend checking out his classes!
Raul is a fantastic instructor. I used to train with him back in Magalit Bjj. He’s trained me since I start Jiujitsu. Visited Nimbus when he opened, and I must say, the new beginners been progressing quickly. This is a total beginner friendly gym and you will learn a lot. Raul does these games other than your typical Bjj drills so you get comfortable with the movements you’ll use in sparring. Highly recommend!
