Combat Krav Maga SF reviews

Rated 4.9/5 across 29 Google reviews.

This is the only place in SF with regular women's self defense classes that are practical and taught by a female instructor. As someone who has taken multiple women's self defense classes, it helps to have regular classes geared towards women since consistency is key to being able to use these skills in the real world. Other women's self defense classes are few and far between, and without practicing the same skills over and over again, I don't know if I will remember them when I need to. At the time of this review, the first class is free, then there are 10-class packs so you don't have to commit to a monthly fee if you have a busy schedule.
I’ve been to a bunch of martial arts studios over the years and this is by far my favorite. I signed up for a trial classes and have been almost every day since. The instructors are amazing. They are so incredibly knowledgeable, approachable, and kind. They truly care about meeting students where they’re at and helping them reach their goals. This is especially true with the Krav classes, which prepare you to protect yourself in real life scenarios. The instructors care so much about preparing their students to protect themselves and take that responsibility seriously. They are always willing to answer questions, go through scenarios that students are worried about, and just help in general. The community is amazing as well. Everyone that attends the gym is friendly and welcoming. Bonus! They also have a couple of different gym dogs that hang out in the lobby from time to time!
I was looking for a place that had trial classes, since I’ve never done self-defense before. This location makes it really easy to get started, offering two free trial classes and a good deal when you sign up, so it doesn’t feel like too much of a commitment starting off. I love my classes so far - I’ve only been to three, but they have been exhilarating. I already feel a little more confident, and I look forward to the classes I sign up for. Not to mention, the process for booking a class is so easy. The instructors are fantastic and supportive and the environment is lovely, and the bathrooms and locker rooms are clean, large, and well-stocked. I was especially impressed that the women’s restroom had pads and tampons available; it’s not common and I love places that add that courteous detail.
I had an excellent experience at this studio! I was only in town for the weekend and was able to call for info about their class schedule and how it worked. They were super helpful and once I was able to make it in, the class itself was great! The energy at the studio made training a lot of fun. There was a good mix of experience in the class, with the instructor adding additional pointers personally for each student based on level. They were well equipped and some members had the necessary guards for live striking, which was a real treat! I would definitely train here regularly if I lived in the area. Thank you, Joel and team, for a great experience!
I’ve been training here for about two years, and it’s been an incredible experience. I’ve learned so many practical skills, improved my confidence, and grown both mentally and physically through the training. The instruction is high-quality, realistic, and challenging in the best way. I’m genuinely grateful for what I’ve learned here and really love training at this gym. It’s become an important part of my routine, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to learn real self-defense and push themselves.
The owner is a multiple-time war veteran and survivor himself (as well as part of the disabled community) that focuses on real life situations that can help save women especially in vulnerable and dire, high risk situations that require focus and reaction during moments of panic. I learned a lot from just one lesson and intend to keep training and have recommended this to my fellow female community.
