The best Jiu-Jitsu gym in San Francisco based on my son’s experience. The coaches are very good people and excellent Jiu-Jitsu teachers and role models. They don’t teach just Jiu-Jitsu moves but also good values like hard work and discipline. My son developed a lot of self confidence since he started there. They also support all the kids who participate in Jiu-Jitsu tournaments around the area. We were sad to leave the coaches and all the friends my son made in the past 3 years but thanks to coach Alex and coach Mark we ended up joining another Charles Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy (in Livermore) and my son loves it.
Our family has been coming to train with Coach Alex for almost three years now. Over that time two kids and a Dad have all gotten involved in classes and we have all had a wonderful experience not only in learning Jiu Jitsu but also in making new friendships in the community. Coach Alex is an exceptional teacher for kids and I have seen the growth in focus, self respect and physical ability that they have achieved under his care. The adult classes with Coaches Gianni and Alex have become a high point of my weekly routine. I highly recommend this school for both kids and adults.
Absolutely LOVE this place. Coach Alex, his dad, Giani (apologies for potentially butchering the spelling of your name) are all wonderful teachers, on the mat in terms of practical Jiu Jitsu skills, but also and maybe as importantly off the mat, with life lessons that my 2 kids need to learn early from somebody else than their dad. Such lessons like resilience, grit, getting comfortable with the uncomfortable. The pedagogy, though disciplined, is also kind, warm and very respectful. I could go on and on, in short and in summary: if you are thinking of getting your kids in a self defense class that not only builds skills, but also builds your child’s confidence and character, run, don’t walk, this is the place for you.
Charles Gracie Richmond is a new BJJ gem in the Bay Area—a rare find for anyone serious about growth. The coaching is exceptional. Each coach brings world-class experience, presence, and a sharp, disciplined mindset that sets the tone for everyone on the mat. You feel it immediately: they care, they see you, and they train you with purpose. You’re pushed, supported, and elevated every step of the way. The facility is spacious, pristine, and designed for real progression. Strong leadership, elite standards, and a culture that builds winners—this place is built to last—send your kids, teens and adults of all ages here!
My daughter and husband have been training here for almost 3 years. Coach Alex is wonderful with the kids - firm, clear, and kind. (Coaches Mark and Gianni are terrific too.) All the coaches really care about the kids' developing a solid foundation in jiujitsu along with their self-confidence. Under Alex's training, both my daughter and husband have competed and taken home gold.
Great School and Incredible Instructors! Our child has been attending the kids' Jiu-Jitsu program for a year and the transformation has been amazing. They strike the perfect balance between discipline and fun, ensuring the kids are learning proper technique while also developing confidence, respect, and focus. It's more than just self-defense; it's a supportive community that teaches valuable life skills.
