This is one of the best BJJ academies I've ever had the opportunity to train at. If you're in the Orangevale/Citrus Heights/Folsom area, come check out a trial class! I toured a few academies in the area since moving to Sacramento. After a great trial class and a few conversations with the owner/head coach, I knew this was the right training environment and a meaningful long-term investment for me. Being extremely skilled and experienced in a martial art is one thing, and being able to teach, demonstrate, and convey those complex skills to audiences of varying ability is another thing. Chris Holdsworth has both of these capabilities - he has an incredible background in jiujitsu and is also able to teach the nuances and details of each technique to a group of white belts to black belts at the same time. We are so grateful to be a part of Chris Holdsworths Gym. Prior to joining, Both my young kids had a solid grappling foundation with gaining the Mount and taking the back often. We began seeking more for our children when they inquired about competing in bjj tournaments and the ability to learn striking techniques. When faced with these requests we knew they needed to have the skill set to compete competitively and possess submission techniques and defensive fundamentals, it was necessary to seek further instruction. The instruction is top-tier—Chris and the coaches break things down clearly, focus on details that actually matter, and make sure everyone understands why techniques work, not just how to do them. The atmosphere is welcoming and professional at the same time. Whether you’re brand new or have years of experience, you’re treated with respect and pushed to get better at your own pace. Holdsworth Martial Arts is my home away from home. This is my favorite place to sharpen my jiu-jitsu skills in the greater Sacramento area. Chris is a former UFC fighter who won the world-famous Ultimate Fighter competition. He’s cornered world-famous UFC fighters like: Andre Fili, Cody Garbrandt, Macy Barber, Darren Elkins, Josh Emmitt…I could go on. The guy is such a nice, humble instructor that you would never know how seasoned of a martial artist he is. His program is great from the kids classes to adults in the evenings. I currently reside in San Jose and make my way up to Orangevale to train at this academy. I’m looking forward to being a full-time student here and starting my son as well once we make the move. Had my first time ever jiu jitsu class here and it was such a great experience! Head coach Chris Holdsworth is extremely knowledgeable, passionate, and professional. He breaks things down in the simplest ways and is super patient with beginners! I’ve always wanted to give jiu jitsu a try but always found it to be intimidating but this place felt extremely welcoming. The gym is really modern and clean. I definitely recommend checking this place out whether it’s your first time or if you’re looking to further your jiu jitsu journey!
I’ve been training at Chris Holdsworth Jiu Jitsu Academy for about 3 weeks now as a white belt, and it’s been an awesome experience so far. The atmosphere is welcoming, the instruction is clear and beginner-friendly, and everyone is supportive whether you’re brand new or more experienced. The coaches really take time to help you improve, and the training environment feels both challenging and positive. Definitely a great place to start or continue your jiu jitsu journey!
