Higher Ground Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu reviews

Rated 5.0/5 across 21 Google reviews.

I started doing BJJ at Higher Ground when it opened last year and have fallen in love with it! Many woman are turned off by jiujitsu when they first see it because of the close contact, sweat, and awkward positioning (I totally was!), but when you try it, you realize that jiujitsu is an artform, and all those other worries just disappear as you practice this art with your team mates. As a woman, our needs are different in this male dominated sport, but the instructors at Higher Ground know how to welcome everyone. The following are some aspects that I really appreciate about Higher Ground: 1. It's CLEAN. They scrub down the mats with bleach solution every day, so I'm not even worried about putting my face on the mat. Many other BJJ gyms don't even come close in this regard. 2. Environment is key. The instructors make sure to maintain good vibes at the gym. This always includes listening to Brazilian reggae music, lots of positivity, and
I joined this gym after several years of training. I was looking for a place with advanced instruction, and skilled training partners so I could continue sharpening my game. I am, however, a middle aged guy with a career. I didn't want to end up in a beast mode gym where I ended up injured for life. This gym really blew my mind. Two advanced black belt instructors, and a gym full of advanced belts that pushed me technically was incredible. On top of that, everyone was just like me with a love for BJJ, with a desire to train smart so we can continue for life. I'd recommend this gym to anyone, especially those who have some training under their belt, wants to grow in technically, and be in a strong community environment.
If you are looking for a place that balances technical excellence with a welcoming atmosphere, Higher Ground Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the gold standard. From the moment you walk through the doors, it’s clear that this isn't just a gym—it’s a community. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and, more importantly, they are skilled at breaking down complex movements into digestible steps. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced practitioner, they provide the individual attention necessary to sharpen your technique and boost your confidence.
I started doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu about 15 months ago. I lost over 40 lbs in the first 3 months and have kept it off. I dropped from over 210 to just under 170. My reason for starting was to build some camaraderie with my son in law and also to understand a sport I new nothing about it so when my grandsons started to participate I could understand what they were doing. I never thought I would fall in love with the sport like I have. I have to give all the credit to Higher Ground for making this such an enjoyable journey for me. I am 52 and was not in great shape. If I would have stepped on to the mat the first day to ridicule or a primadonna attitude the first day would have been my last. I'm too old to put up with that but I was treated with respect and pushed only to the limit I was willing to push myself to from day 1 and it has worked out great for me. I would encourage anyone who is looking for a way to keep fit or improve their
From super beginner to a higher level, HGBJJ has a great environment to train jiujitsu. All the members are like family, very helpful and NO drama whatsoever. Both the professors are legit black belt and are very good in giving instructions, so no questions there about their abilities. I have been training here for almost 3 years now and loving every single session of it whether I get choked out or not :).
I've been training at Higher Ground for over four years now. Julio and Sean are the owners and instructors. Julio is a black belt under Rodrigo Teixeira and Sean is a black belt under Saulo Ribeiro. Both instructors offer solid fundamental techniques and a positive attitude. Their top notch instructions and good vibes keep me coming back. They take the time to help everyone, nothing is held back, they're here to help you get better. I've repeatedly seen students ask questions after class and the instructors always help out with good advice.
