These guys rock!! My son has been training here for only a few weeks and he's hooked. Better yet, we're hooked!! He's taking the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) classes and has been begging to try the wrestling class :) We've been to other gyms/academy's and although they all claim to have a family atmosphere none can compare to Crispim BJJ Barra Brothers in Pleasanton. From the second you step foot in door it's easy to see and feel the family vibe. From the students (both kids and adults) to the instructors everyone's there to help one another achieve whatever personal goals you may have. No wonder they were awarded 2012 Best Martial Arts School in Pleasanton by Pleasanton Weekly!!
I've been training here for about six months with a couple breaks. I love the staff and all the instructors. Alexander Crispim, the owner (with his wife) and main instructor fosters a family friendly environment in which both children and adults can learn a ton while having fun and getting fit. This academy takes the intimidation factor out of learning Boxing, Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai and doing their functional fitness classes. This is truly a world class place and I am glad I was pointed in this direction by a coworker. Its really cool to be able to roll with people and see that the whole family trains there.
Our 3 boys started doing muay thai and jiu jitsu. We have been into other facilities trying to find a place, but knew we found it from the moment we walked into Crispim. Crispim and the other instructors are top notch and have created a welcoming, family-like culture, where everyone can train and learn. They are excellent with kids and teach technique, while keeping a fun, positive environment. More importantly, they teach respect, kindness and other traits to help build strong character. I started training as well and love it! If you are on the fence about trying a new fitness program or looking for the best place for your kids, look no further. This is it. You will get a quick, friendly and helpful response when you reach out...and you will not be disappointed!
I had the pleasure of dropping in for a gi class with Coach Demetri while in the Bay area for a weekend a few months back (apologies for the delayed review!). Drove out from Berkely to roll with an old friend who trains there. Had a great experience. Super friendly and welcoming vibe. Excellent DLR details; Coach Demetri taught an entry and a couple really sneaky sweep options and a wrestle-up. Facilities are great, everyone was nice and helpful, culture of the room felt really strong. Would definitely recommend Crispim for any level; whether you’re an experienced combat competitor, or someone who has never tried any sort of grappling or striking and looking for self defense, fitness or just mental and physical problem solving, this academy feels like great support for anyone anywhere on their journey. Thanks for having me!
I dropped in at Crispim BJJ. I called before going in and introduced myself as a brown belt who trains in Sacramento. I told the person on the phone that I am active duty Army and was at Camp Parks for a few weeks for training. I asked to drop in and was told that there was a 30 dollar drop in fee. I ended up going in, paid the fee and attend a class taught by a black belt named Kobo. Good class, great instruction. They let me borrow a gi and a belt. I got to roll with three black belts, a purple belt, and a couple blue belts. Everyone was cool and there was some good technique.
Crispim is by far the best instructor ever. We have been going here for about 2 years and I started my son out in BJJ. I started taking the fight shape and muay thai classes. As time went on I started BJJ and I love it. I love learning and competing. This is a very family oriented place. Everyone knows everyone but in a loving, got your back, I wouldn t let anything happened to your kids way. I would recommend this gym to anyone. =)
