Ive been training at the Grappler's Studio for 4 months. I came to them as a purple belt. I needed a school closer to home and work so I could spend more time with my family. Living in the Southern California Area there is a lot of Jiu-jitsu schools to choose from. Why Grapplers Studio? I needed a school with lots of classes to match my hectic schedule, but I also wanted to train with people who are competitive and as serious about the hobby I love. Grapplers studio filled my needs and then some. I attend their Mon.,Wed., and occasionally Fri. night Advanced class. The Head instructor is World Champion Laercio Fernandes. He's is friendly, professional and an encyclopedia of Jiu-Jitsu. He is as nice as he is friendly, but don't be fooled, he pushes his students to achieve excellence and to give their best on and off the mat. I also had the privilege of attending Purple belt instructor Anthony Franks fundamental class with his kids. Watch
Alliance Jiu-Jitsu in Laguna Hills is hands down one of the best academies out there. From the moment you walk in, you're welcomed into a supportive, high-level training environment that fosters both skill development and personal growth. The gym is clean, well-organized, and filled with a great mix of students—whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned competitor, this is the place to be. What truly sets this academy apart, though, is Professor Laercio. His level of expertise and dedication to the art of Jiu-Jitsu is truly inspiring. He has an incredible ability to break down techniques in a way that’s easy to understand, yet highly effective in both self-defense and competition settings. His passion for teaching is evident in every class—he genuinely cares about his students and pushes everyone to reach their full potential. Beyond his technical skills, Professor Laercio creates a culture of respect, discipline, and camaraderie.
I have trained martial arts since I was 13 years old. A lot of different styles and systems. That being said. I am now 51 years old. I am not new to Jui Jitsu but haven't actively trained in it in 10 years. So I thought ok been wanting to roll again, get in shape. How hard can it be? Studio # one. This instructor really didn't seem to really want to train some old dinosaur like me. I drove out twice from Murrieta to Irvine to train and he never showed up?? So I figured that I would try Next to my house. This instructor seemed interested. I told him about my prior jui jitsu training. Just so he new that I wasn't a 51 year old rookie. So we were finishing up the conversation and he says to me okay sounds good I look forward to meeting your kid. I am like no I was the one wanting to train. He looks at me in disbelief and says how long has it been since you rolled?? Now I am thinking wow never had this problem before. Nobody wants to train
Too many good things to say about this academy, I honestly don't know where to start. I've tried numerous academies since I started my jiu jitsu journey, though all of them were great in their own respect, never have I truly felt at home as I do at Grappler's Studio. As said in other reviews, you absolutely get world class (Cobrinha/Alliance) instructions by Profressor Laercio, Coach Anthony, and the rest of the coaching staff. What stood out to me the most was when I first stepped on the mat, I was welcomed like family. It's awesome to see everyone from all walks of life get together and have fun learning jiu jitsu. No egos just drilling, rolling, and growing together. Whether you are competing to become a World Champ or intrerested in learning the art, you can't go wrong checking out Grappler's Studio.
When I first started my jiu-jitsu journey back in 2018, I used to chase the belt — focused on timelines and ranks. But everything changed when I joined Alliance Laguna Hills. This academy has been the best investment I’ve made for myself ; not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. The professors here genuinely care about your growth, both on and off the mats. They teach with structure, precision, and respect for the art. The community is filled with people who push you, support you, and make you feel part of a family from day one. It’s more than just a gym. It’s a place where you build discipline, confidence, and resilience and for me, that’s priceless. If you’re serious about learning authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a respectful, world-class environment, this is the place.
As a father of little girls, one of my biggest priorities was finding a safe and positive sport where they could learn discipline, confidence, and self-defense. I decided to enroll them in Jiu-Jitsu, and I can honestly say it has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. At first, my daughters weren’t used to the physical side of the sport, but after just a few weeks they began to really enjoy it. Watching them grow stronger, more confident, and disciplined has been an incredible experience for me as a parent. I know they are learning valuable skills that can protect them and empower them in life. The instructors, Professor Laercio and Professor Abraham, are outstanding. Their patience, knowledge, and ability to connect with the kids create such a positive learning environment. And Ariana, the receptionist, is absolutely amazing—she’s welcoming, friendly, and always makes us feel at home. If you’re a parent looking for a place wher
