Putting into words what Phenom has been for me over the past 7+ years isn't possible. My Jiu Jitsu journey has had its ups and downs as life has thrown at me the inevitable variables I have had to adjust to. Marriage, kids, career changes, injuries...everything a middle-aged adult can expect to deal with. The one constant has been where I train and the community/family I have surrounded myself with. There are many BJJ gyms you can choose from, but I assure you they are not all equal. Professor Martin is one of one. His knowledge of the game is something I equate to what Chess Grandmasters achieve. A knowledge steeped heavily in the tiniest detail of every move and body position required to execute a transition or submission. I use to and still review endless numbers of youtube videos for techniques in regards to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I got the fundamentals and many fancy moves quickly yet incompletely; however, I learned through training with Phenom's owner Professor Martin the little details, invisible Jiu Jitsu, that could make any position that much more effective. Through the past 3 years of training with him, he has continually shown me new and different techniques or details of those techniques that has revolutionized my game. Additionally, his coaching prepared me for many competitions but has never pushed me if I didn't want to be. Overall - if you are serious about learning the "art" of Jiu Jitsu... train with Professor Martin.
*This is a review from a parent* This place is amazing. My son was 4 years old when he joined and my son has that prankster personality. He always jokes around, can't focus, don't listen, very bad with following directions. I was looking for a martial art class for him that can teach him discipline and of course, self defense! On the first day, I was very impressed with how awesome, energetic, & engaging the class is. They make the class very fun but the instructors do not hesitate to discipline the kids when they don't pay attention (not like other places when they totally ignore the kids who are just goofing around). It has been about 6 months now since he started, and I can see big improvement with his BJJ skill and his attitude. I am very happy to see how much my son has grown, and he loves BJJ now. Phenom is on the total opposite direction from my kids' school but I am planning to keep him in Phenom for as long as possible, totally
Jiu-jitsu has changed my life! My professors here at Phenom have really made a big difference in my life. Professor Martin and Professor Jeff have really impacted my life in a positive way. They have become my role models! I always wanted to play a sport in high school but no sports really interested me. When I was introduced to Jiu-jitsu I was blown away. I am addicted. Jiu-jitsu has taught me how to be patient and how to defend myself when I need to. I haven’t had the opportunity to defend myself and I hope that day never comes. If there’s ever a situation where I will be forced to defend myself, I will be ready. I have amazing teammates here at Phenom and I will continue training here for the rest of my life. I live in Seattle but visit OC semi regularly. I have visited this academy on many occasions and will keep coming back every chance I get. Professor Martin is not only an encyclopedia of Jiu Jitsu knowledge but one of the most welcoming hosts of a school that I have visited. His students are all smiling and equally as welcoming. There is no better place to train Jiu Jitsu full time , if you are in the area and looking for a home school; or even swing by for a visit. I can't say enough good things about this place. I have the deepest respect for this Academy, it's students and most of all for Professor Martin.
Phenom bjj is legit. Professor martin is a genius brazillian jujitsu practitioner and instructor. He is able to make you grasp and understand the true technique of the art. I cannot say enough about his passion and skill he brings to the mats. It does not matter what age or body type you are he will make you reach your full potential and more. The team trains hard but are very respectful and friendly. the facility is really nice with so many amenities which a lot of other academies don't offer. Come check it out!!!!!
