If you’re a parent in South Bay / South San Diego looking for a jiu-jitsu academy that truly builds confidence, discipline, and real skill in kids, this place is outstanding. My 7-year-old daughter has progressed extremely fast since starting here, and a huge part of that is due to Coach Cassio Barbosa. Cassio is a black belt with an incredible ability to teach children—he’s patient, structured, and knows exactly how to push kids while still keeping classes positive and fun. He has produced many youth champions, and it’s easy to see why. What stands out most is the impact beyond jiu-jitsu. I’ve seen a major change in my daughter’s confidence and independence. She’s more willing to try new things on her own, speaks up more, and carries herself with confidence. That kind of growth is priceless as a parent. My daughter and I have been training at Grounded BJJ since May, and just five months later I competed for the first time and took 1st place. That alone speaks volumes about the quality of instruction and environment at this gym. Before Grounded opened, we were training at another academy where we met Professor Cassio. When we found out he was opening his own gym, we moved over as soon as possible, and it was one of the best decisions we’ve made. He has a truly special way of teaching and is by far one of the most technical professors I’ve ever trained under. He received his black belt from André Galvão at ATOS, one of the most respected schools producing world champions, and that level of excellence clearly shows in his coaching. This jiu jitsu gym is an incredible place to train. The professor is extremely knowledgeable and does an excellent job teaching techniques in a clear, patient, and encouraging way. He is always kind and takes the time to make sure everyone understands, no matter their experience level. The atmosphere is very family-oriented and community-based, which makes it a comfortable and welcoming environment for everyone. I’m always excited to go to class, and I’ve learned so much since I started training here. Highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to grow in jiu jitsu while being part of a supportive team.
Great place,good people, for bjj in Chula Vista. I was just visiting a friend there and they were very welcoming. Everyone was there to learn and help, nobody was aggressive or gooning.
