Defcon Jiu Jitsu is an incredible place to train! The atmosphere is welcoming, and the level of instruction is top-notch. Professor Art is an amazing teacher—he’s knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely invested in his students’ progress. Whether you’re a beginner or more advanced, you’ll find that Professor Art breaks down techniques in a way that’s easy to understand and apply. The community here is super supportive, and the training environment really pushes you to improve. Highly recommend Defcon Jiu Jitsu to anyone looking to grow in the sport!
I started training at Defcon in early 2022. I planned to train for 3 or 4 months and improve my fitness a bit.. It's been 14 months and I'm still driving 75 miles round trip three times a week - That's how much I love this place! Super clean facility, great training partners, solid jiu-jitsu. Getting to roll often with high level practitioners like professor Art and coach Tim will quickly elevate your game. There is a solid core of experienced regulars that are happy to help out those new to the art. Already experienced in combat sports? Trust me, there is still so much for you to learn in this room. I love this place so much! Professor Art is an excellent instructor- whether you are a beginning white belt or a seasoned Jiu-Jiteiro-- you are able to take away so much from his classes. He takes his time to guide you through the nuances of each movement, and facilitates a wonderful and positive learning environment for students of all ages and genders. It is a safe and fun space to learn, and I look forward to coming to each class.
This has to be the best BJJ gym in Bakersfield. Professor Art has amazing fundamentals and takes pride in his craft. Also, Professor Art trained at an original Gracie academy; so you know you're in good hands. Lastly, the environment is very clean and welcoming. You will not regret embarking your journey here at DEFCON.
I absolutely loved DEFCON. Super friendly staff and a very welcoming environment.. I wasn’t able to stay with the classes due to us living on the other side of town, but if it wasn’t for that I’d 100% keep my little ones in their BJJ program. Luke, Leía and Leslie are one in a million. Keep it up guys!
Best Jiu Jitsu school in Bakersfield. Professor Art is an outstanding teacher. The gym is always clean and ran like a well oiled machine. Great for kids, beginners and experienced grapplers.
