If you're looking for instructors who are legitimate, honest, decorated, still actively competing and successful, as well as respectful, kind, patient, and talented, Matt Baker, his wife Jill, and their two amazing grown kids who all are instructors, are what I described. If you want an environment that is positive, respectful, fun, perfect for family (including excellent kids classes), well priced, and with two great training center locations, that's what this is like. I've been to dojos and martial arts schools since youth for Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, MMA, and the instructors/teachers/coaches/etc. and/or the environment (the students, the expectations of how to treat one another, the physical building) sometimes can significantly differ. I've been to good and bad over 30 years, and this has been the best place, instruction, and people I've encountered. A true family. Enrolled my kid and she is loving it because of the c
Matt and Jill Bakers training is revolutionary to the BJJ sport. Matt created a style of jiu jitsu called Trujitsu and it focuses on simplistic but practical tactics that hes observed. My favorite of these rules is if you need strength, speed or the other person to do something then its not a Trujitsu move. About the gym: there are 2 locations one in the SW and one in the NW. They keep the gym very clean and always filled with people. if you sign up for one gym you can go to both and if you want to train every day all day you pretty much can, they have classes several times a day. The people there have become family to me and if you meet them outside the gym its like youre family meeting up again and will always have your back. They are very women friendly and Jill runs a kick ass group of women fighters called the Riveters. Everyone starts off at the beginning feeling beat up but quickly become literal champions. I cant say enough abou
If you any kind of interest in the Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or you just watch the UFC, I highly recommend this academy. The instructor Matt at BBJJ is probably one of the best humans beings you'll ever meet. He has dedicated the last decade of his life to making sure BBJJ is on par with the great BJJ academies in Los Angeles. Matt's main focus is making his students better. The same goes for his upper belts. There is a large number of really good upper belts who will make you better, whether you've been training for years or days. These guys work hard, but the environment is always safe and positive. There are two academies in Bakersfield, afternoon, night and weekend classes.
“The gentle art,” she said. “Jiu-Jitsu.” TRUJITSU HQ I have spent years wandering through life, mind restless, like two ‘monkeys’ fighting in a cage, purpose unclear. Chaos followed, relationships crumbled, jobs felt meaningless, and my thoughts tangled like vines, suffocating any sense of direction. One evening, traveling through Bakersfield, Ca. I got fortunate enough to gather the address to this dojo! Ironically, I got ‘lost’ in the, Hide N Seek, parking lot. I hesitated before stepping in. The professor, known simply as Sensei Matt, gave me a piece to the puzzle I’ve been missing for years. Chaos is only a lack of understanding. The art isn’t about controlling others, it’s about controlling yourself. Jiu-Jitsu wasn’t just movement, it was meaning. And for the first time in my life, I wasn’t fighting the chaos. I was flowing with it. Sensei Matt, I can’t thank you enough for welcoming me into your gym and giving me the chance to tra
I had a great experience here! I dropped in and folks went out of their way to welcome me. I got some great training that was very technical. Traveling for work has allowed me the opportunity to visit more than 30 BJJ gyms, and my experience here was one of the best! Everyone I trained with was respectful and looking to improve. Coach/Owner Matt Baker has built a great culture and he even stayed after to train with me. I talked to him at length and he is a dedicated coach that cares greatly for his people. After seeing the time and effort they gave me as a visitor passing through, I can imagine training there regularly must be awesome!
Matt and Jill Baker are incredible people and coaches! I mainly trained with Jill Baker (black belt) at the Riveters class which is for women only. It was so important for me to learn from a woman and among women. I felt safe, accepted and empowered. I also trained at the all adults class and the men are incredibly respectful of women. Hands down, their caliber of training is the best you will receive. I recently moved out of Bakersfield and I miss this gym SO much!
