Bottom Line Up Front: Train here if you want to get fit, make friends, gain self-defense skills, and feel confident knowing you can take care of yourself and your family. The What: If you want to learn striking, they offer kickboxing. If you want to learn grappling, they have Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). And if you want to be well-rounded, they teach mixed martial arts (MMA). The Who: The reason why you can learn such a wide array of combat sports is because of the owner and head instructor, Professor Danny Saurez. He is a true martial artist, having trained in everything from Judo and wrestling to Wing Chun and Kali. But of course, he is a world-class expert in BJJ, MMA, and kickboxing. As a former professional MMA fighter and a 4th-degree black belt in BJJ, he knows what it takes to win, having a versatile skillset and a strong championship mindset. But that doesn't mean you have to be a fighter to appreciate his teaching. Prof. Danny i
SoCal Combat Club isn’t just a gym it’s a family of like minded people that came together to help better each other. The team that Coach Danny has training under him are phenomenal and all the higher belts want to help the new members to get better and will take the time to breakdown the details of the moves that we are working on. With the new location being super close to the freeway makes it easy to train which is a massive plus. I have been training under Coach Danny for 9 months now. The passion and love that Coach Danny’s has for BJJ and kickboxing and wanting his students to excel is hard to find nowadays. Coach Danny and the whole team are down to earth and no one has a chip on their shoulder. Coach Danny is definitely the Best coach you can train under. For all the days you can train and being able to have the best of both worlds (Stand up and ground) for a very good deal it was a no brainer for me to start training at SoCal Co
Before committing to a BJJ gym, I took my time visiting a few places in my neighborhood and tried out some complimentary classes. I found some gyms where, after 30 minutes, I was barely acknowledged. Some had huge classes, and people seem to think “it’s like a taco place—if it’s packed, it must be GREAT.” Well, not really. Just because a place is crowded doesn’t mean the instructor can effectively help everyone. I noticed many students were lost, unsure of what to do next, and there wasn’t much guidance or correction, which led to awkward moments of just chatting while someone was mounted on me or holding my foot. Some gyms looked great, but the atmosphere was cold and way too competitive. I get it if that’s your jam, but I’m in my early 40s and I want to learn, be challenged, and have great camaraderie—not be worried about students coming at me full force every time. Walking into Danny’s gym was different. It’s laid-back and welcoming,
In 2013, me and my family went through a tough and personal hardship. Coach Danny saw that and with him already being so connected to our family, he personally reached out to me and invited me to check out his MMA Academy. At first I thought it was nothing more than just some MMA training but then I realized he was giving me something more. Growing up, he didn't only provide to me great instructional classes, he helped me push through tough workouts, grow in maturity, character and respect as well as realize the value in hard work and dedication. Through MMA, he helped me get through tough times and helped me with my personal growth / development which I feel speaks volumes to the type of coach and person he is. Whether you're looking to receive high level instruction, enjoy classes for the workout or simply become a better person / mixed martial artist, SoCal Combat Club is the gym to join. Welcoming, personal and family feel oriented
As a Muay Thai/kickboxing enthusiast, I must say that this gym has it all! From the moment I stepped in, the coaches and students were all very welcoming and helpful. There is a good mix of students with various levels of experience. The classes are structured so that students not only get an amazing workout but will also understand the concepts and learn new techniques. Every class is different and you will never get bored! Coach Danny has decades of experience and it shows through his awesome teaching style. I enjoyed the kickboxing classes so much that I recently started taking the BJJ classes. Now I am totally hooked and look forward to training every day! Also during these covid times, the gym strives to keep the students safe by maintaining a safe and clean environment. I highly recommend this gym to anyone whether you are experienced or brand new to the sport!
Beginning something new, regardless of what it is can be intimidating. Factor in that that "something new" is a very intense, physically demanding, male dominated, contact sport...entering as a woman felt like it's own challenge. That is, before I had actually joined. Unsure of whether bjj was something I actually wanted to do, I decided to take my first class just to see what it would be like, not certain if I would continue with it. Immediately I felt welcomed and that my presence was valued. The range of students at various milestones in their mma/bjj journey provided so many different perspectives and areas to learn in. It has been about a year and a half now that I have trained at SoCal Combat Club under Professor Danny Suarez and I have learned so much. He does a great job at gauging and respecting his students' boundaries while ensuring that they grow. Whether that growth is cleaning up technique, learning discipline, getting phy
