This place is such a gem. The owners Bill and Olivia are some of most welcoming, good, and down to earth people I ever met in the Jiu Jitsu community. They seem to really care about creating an environment that's safe, supportive and fun for their students while still helping their students progress in their Jiu Jitsu. Bill is an awesome instructor whose teaching style is detailed, easy to understand, and easy to implement. Everyone I've met here has been welcoming and kind. I highly recommend visiting and joining here. It's a great place for everyone whether you're new or experienced. I have both my kids in their kids class and I do their adult class.
I absolutely love it here!

First off the gym itself has an awesome clean uplifting look to it and it’s located in a cool area, right in the SanTan mall by the movie theater.

I’ve been to a lot of gyms and I’ve never seen mats constructed quite like the ones here. The mats here have a bit more of a bounce to them, they absorb a lot more force which it makes it easier to practice throws without worrying about injuries.

And speaking of throws, this school actually focuses on stand-up and judo throwing for Bjj, something I very rarely see in gyms and it’s awesome that it’s here.
So you’re going to have a massive advantage over people who don’t train throws.

The people here are really nice. They take the light vibes heavy jiu-jitsu motto seriously. They have been super welcoming.

Professor Bill and Coach Olivia have built something really special.

Check it out!
The facility is fresh and has a really nice layout and good feel. The floor under the mats is floating on foam springs so training takedowns feels much better and for practicing throws they have a crash pad. As an instructor Bill is clear, precise and fun and takes the time to make sure you are doing it right for your body so you don’t start to practice bad technique. The jiu-jitsu is top notch backed by great lineage from instructors that never quit learning. The vibes are light and fun but with a consistent focus on always improving. I’ve trained many places and so far this is heads and shoulders above the others.
This place is probably the best school you will find in San Tan Valley. In my case, it's worth flying over all the way from Seattle just to visit this amazing place. The owners and instructors are a great couple who are very friendly and are much invested in your grappling development. This is not your typical jiu jitsu school. You will have to learn how to be comfortable grappling from standing position and Bill will make sure you are very successful with that.
If you enjoy a positive atmosphere with a lot of jokes while nerd out about all aspects of grappling and have competitive rounds - this should be your new home.

P.S. This is one of the few places that won't close down until the last round is finished. You can stay and grapple after class or work on your techniques. It's like an open mat every day.
First and foremost, just so it's clear, the gym owners are my friends, have been for several years. That stated, I'm not here blow smoke or fluff this review for my friends. I'm leaving this review as a way to let people know what you're in for if you train here.

You get out what you put in. In jiu jitsu, in life, in everything. Same applies at Santan. If you show up, drill with intent, put in the work, and be consistent, these guys can help you achieve. This isn't just a business to these folks, its a passion, a pursuit, and a way of life.

It's not just going to an hour long session, then going home. It's high level technique delivered with enthusiasm and understanding, based in rock solid fundamentals. It's fellowship after class, and working together to solve the next challenge. It's a place to find that dog in you, amongst others on the same path.

Bill is borderline obsessed. His skill acquisition and ability to
All levels are welcome. Highly effective martial arts for practical use, great open mat, classes with a community that brings out the best in you along with great vibes. Passionate instructors you can rely on. The floors are designed to withstand falling. They have water unlike some gyms, changing rooms and a place for spectators. They’ve even got an arcade machine. You have to go see it for yourself, located in a shopping center so before or after you can enjoy the plenty of restaurants and stores in the area or go see a movie. It fits nicely into your schedule. Check out their instagram page!
