Loop Choke
Also known as: Loop · Rolling Loop Choke · Koshi Jime (adjacent)
A gi strangle that turns your opponent’s forward pressure against them: a collar grip becomes a noose as you guide their head down and under your arm.
Submission · Strangle (blood choke) · Gi only · Difficulty 3/5 · Usually learned at Blue belt
Starts from Front Headlock as the attacker (on the head) → ends the match (submission).
The details that make it work
- Grip the collar shallow with four fingers in; the "loop" appears when your elbow lifts over their ducking head.
- Feed their head under your armpit as they drive or as you snap them down — their motion tightens it.
- Finish by dropping to your side or rolling through, letting the collar do the strangling.
Where it goes wrong
- Muscling a static loop against a postured opponent instead of catching motion.
How opponents counter it
- Posture up the instant the collar grip crosses the neck
- Circle away from the looping elbow
