Also known as: Bow & Arrow · Okuri Eri Jime (variation) · Collar-and-Leg Choke
The strongest gi choke in the sport: a deep collar grip plus a grip on their pants, your body extending like an archer drawing a bow — the collar does to their neck what a bowstring does to an arrow.
Submission · Strangle (blood choke) · Gi only · Difficulty 3/5 · Usually learned at Blue belt
Starts from Back Control as the back taker → ends the match (submission).
The details that make it work
Collar grip deep behind the neck FIRST (thumb-in from the seatbelt makes it invisible).
Your other hand grips their same-side pants at the knee; your leg swings over their shoulder.
Extend everything: pull the collar toward you, push the knee away, your body arcs into the "bow".
Where it goes wrong
A shallow collar grip that slides around the jaw when the extension starts.
How opponents counter it
Two hands strip the collar grip before the leg swings
Turn INTO the choking side early to slacken the collar
Is the Bow and Arrow Choke legal in competition?
