Also known as: Mounted Armbar · Juji Gatame (mount) · S-Mount Armbar Setup
The classical top finish: isolate an arm from mount, climb to S-mount, swing your leg over the head, and sit back with their elbow lined up over your hips.
Submission · Armlock · Gi & No-gi · Difficulty 3/5 · Usually learned at White belt
Starts from Mount as the mounted player (top) → ends the match (submission).
The details that make it work
Attack the arm they push with — mount pressure creates the extended arm for you.
Climb to S-mount first: knee behind their head, weight staying DOWN through the transition.
Sit back with knees pinched; hips close to the shoulder mean the finish needs inches, not yanks.
Where it goes wrong
Standing tall while swinging the leg over — the light moment is when they escape.
Sitting back with loose knees, letting the elbow slip out before extension.
How opponents counter it
Hitchhiker escape as the leg swings
Hide the elbow and stack toward the attacker before they sit back
Is the Armbar from Mount legal in competition?
Legal in all major rulesets at all levels (IBJJF, ADCC, sub-only). Rules change — always confirm against the current official rulebook for your event.
