This place is a great place to learn and grow your Jiu-Jitsu. Professor Leo Cantu is very knowledgeable in all aspects of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. From takedowns, guard, passing, prevention, gi, nogi, and self defense. There is a big mat space, restroom/shower, and a kids corner for your little ones. All the black belts train with everyone there. That was a huge plus for me. They have a friendly environment and open doors to anybody who wants to go and train.
I can’t say enough great things about the Gracie Barra Corpus Christi academy! From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed, respected, and supported. The professors create a positive, professional atmosphere where safety is clearly a top priority, and they take the time to make sure everyone feels comfortable—especially women who may be new to the sport. The culture here is truly empowering. Training partners are encouraging, the instruction is top-notch, and there is a strong sense of community on and off the mats. Whether you’re looking to build confidence, learn self-defense, or challenge yourself physically and mentally, this academy provides an environment where you can grow without intimidation. If you’re a woman considering jiu-jitsu but feel hesitant to start, this is absolutely the place to be. You’ll be surrounded by people who want to see you succeed!
Leo Cantu and his blackbelts are the most technical I have ever seen. I have personally trained with Leo since 2000 when he was a purple belt. Even back then he could have submitted any blackbelt. Top notch professor with tons of little technical knowledge to make you the best! If you are serious about Jiujitsu this is the place that you need to be training. Gi training is brutal and isnt for everyone but it has high rewards for those that are willing to endure. Leo strives to make you a blackbelt on the mats as well as off the mats.
Visiting from out of town and my first day at the location I met Professor Leo Cantu who was very welcoming. Professor Cantu's teaching was great and I will be taking techniques back to DFW I've learned here. Professor Cantu's students have great technique and I had some good, tough rounds of training with them. Very good atmosphere for training jiu jitsu, learning, with no egos from anyone during my training.
If you are in corpus and like BJJ this is the spot. Very welcoming to visitors. The whole team was welcoming. Even though they had a tournament that weekend I was invited to partake in classes while I was in town. I only went to one because of my schedule but will return every time I am in town. I have trained for 18 years and this place is legit. Thank you guys.
My Year at Gracie Barra Corpus Christi. This place’s meaning to me is copious, and truly unique. I invite anyone to just come, sit down, and hear who we are. We are team, we are family. We are the individual stories that make us stronger, closer, and better; individually and as a people.
