I’ve been training here for almost a month now and it’s an amazing place to learn jiu-jitsu. Professor Ralph is very welcoming to new students and visitors. He is a true professional who teaches in a way that’s easy to understand and actually helps you improve. He brings a ton of experience and knowledge and focuses not just on what’s out there but on what has genuinely worked for him. The gym culture is great. If you’re a beginner you’ll feel comfortable and respected and no one is trying to hurt anyone. Everyone is willing to help, share what they know and give you the chance to practice what you learn during class. The facilities are also clean and well maintained. Overall it’s been a fantastic experience!
This is for sure the best BJJ gym in Brownsville, if not the Valley. Professor Ralph is a legit blackbelt who keeps the valuable lessons from traditional BJJ, stays on top of trends in competition/sport BJJ, and runs a clean, respectful training environment. The gym has BJJ competitors but is also 100% welcoming to brand new trainees without grappling experience. You can train as intensely or as low-key as you're comfortable with.
